Fascinating I say....One question: Will Funimation ever get the rights to license the movie in both Dub and Sub versions?

Hopefully, this means that there can be success after Ghibli. I'm wondering if GKids will get this for a U.S. domestic release in theaters and home video, as they have non-Miyazaki Ghibli titles.

Really? Either GKids or Funimation, right? WHAT IF Funimation redubbed all the Ghilbi movies?

Why would they need to redub them? The existing dubs for all the Ghibli films are fantastic. (This is coming from someone who has watched both Japanese and English versions.)

Can't wait to see this.

I'm curious who will pick it up too, I hope whoever does dubs it for a dual audio release.

I saw both Marnie and Mary on opening day... and the number of people at those showings definitely go along with these stats.

However, Mary -should- have better numbers. They've been advertising the hell out of this movie for the past year. I remember seeing Marnie maybe advertised before a few movies, but not to the degree that Mary was.

Yonebayashi gave special thanks to Takahata, Miyazaki, and Suzuki at the end of the film... but man, is he nowhere near their level. The animation was great, the music was great -- it definitely felt like a Ghibli movie in those regards -- but the story and characters were so flat. That magic you find in Ghibli tales just isn't there. I felt like Marnie had the same problems too, but that still surprisingly got pretty decent reviews. I really wanted to like Mary, but once the film ended, all I could do is let out a little sigh/moan because that was it -- it came and went, and nothing really happened at all. Mary's (little) arc was pointless, and none of the other characters had any development. It all seemed very run-of-the-mill and aimless.

I'm interested in seeing what the critics will say about Mary.
Is ANN going to do a review?

Currently living in Japan so I got to see this over the weekend. It's basically a Ghibli film but without the logo. I think people will enjoy it when it comes out of Japan, but don't expect much originality. It's essentially Spirited Away, Kiki, and Howl all rolled into one film. No doubt that it'll come outside of Japan eventually but it may take awhile.

Altitude Films has already licensed it worldwide (likely Eng. speaking territories because "that's all that matters, right?") and plan to release it in the UK with Madman releasing it in Australia. I'd expect to see it in theatres sometime later this year in those regions given how early they got the license and the thriving anime film market in those countries.

I doubt it. I bet Funimation is planning to license and dub the movie.

I'm actually hyped to see this. Sure, it looks like your typical Ghibli movie and probably won't be anything new and unique (but then again, what is in this in this time and year?), but the movie itself looks magical enough to me to make me watch it and I probably will. Hopefully they're gonna release it soon.

Completely agree. Also, that's kind of what I want from this.
