I don't know how the plot goes in the light novel, but the manga version got boring so fast. The best friend character doesn't even appear that often to be called a major character.

From what I can tell, Yasunori Yamada and Yasutomo Yamada are two entries in our encyclopedia, but they are the same person. We have a few threads on this in the forums, but there hasn't been a definitive answer on the subject so far it looks like. There is only one wikipedia entry for the name kanji 山田靖智 that states Yasunori is the way to read that name kanji, so we'll leave it as is in this article for now, but we'll research this a bit further and see what we can find. Thank you for pointing this out.

To follow up, our encyclopedia and news staff has decided to use the spelling Yasunori Yamada for the name kanji 山田靖智 going forward, based on an entry for the name on the Writers Guild of Japan.
