Can anyone tell me some of his works?
I know he did Cowboy Bebop, and is doing the upcoming Samurai Champloo, which I am looking forward to. But has he done any other anime's? |

He did two Animatrix shorts. A Detective's Story's one, but I forget what the other was.

I heard the Animatrix wasn't all that good, what did you think of it?

Well, The Animatrix isn't just one story, it's several disconnected stories that all vary widely in quality. For example, A Detective's Story was one of the best shorts on there, while Matriculated (which was directed by, and featured character designs by Peter Chung) was downright godawful.
Overall, I enjoyed the shorts, but there were one or two that the world (and the Matrix mythos) could've done without. Last edited by Nagisa on Sun Dec 21, 2003 6:21 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Make that co-director, just looked at my discs again. I thought Kawamori had the producer's chair, but seems he did Director as well as Mecha Design (of course, can't have Macross without Kawamori as Mecha Designer)....
I wasn't overly impressed. I recommend you rent it, first, then decide whether or not to buy it. Wish I'd done that.... |

Excel Saga director was Shinichi Watanabe (also directed Tenchi Muyo! GXP, ES spinoff Puni Puni Poemi, & the Gravitation OVA). Close, but no cigar. Oh, and check out his pic in the Encyclopedia. |

Ah well... confused the two, I guess....
Peter Chung... hopefully I'm not the only one to despise his character designs.... |

What's funny about that picture is that's actually how the guy dresses, if you can't tell or didn't know Nabeshin was designed after him. Look at it this way, Watanabe Shinshiro. Anyway, you can see all of Shinichiro Watanabes credits here. Personally I think the guy is over credited. He only directed Cowboy Bebop, he didn't create it, that honor goes to Hajime Yatate to created many of the most popular series out there (several of the Gundam series, Big O, Escaflowne, Gasaraki and many, many others). However Yatate isn't an artist, he seems more like an idea guy, just comes up with concepts and leaves it up to others to draw and write (see Big O manga). Emerje |

If I remember correctly, "Hajime Yatate" is just a pseudonym used by Bandai to describe a whole creative team, or when a series has multiple creators without significant name recognition (in other words, a Gundam series' Original Creator credits listing Yoshiyuki Tomino & Hajime Yatate roughly translates to "Yoshiyuki Tomino and these other no-name guys").

Hmm, well, that does sound right, but why don't they credit "him" with both writing and art instead of one or the other? Emerje |

No clue. I'm not even sure I have all the facts straight on the pseudonym itself.
