Out of all the shows Amazon paywall-blocked, this is the one I'm the most annoyed about, since I enjoyed the first season so much. I may buy a one-month subscription after the season's over just to binge this one and a couple of others they're blocking me from like Vivid Strike.
Season 1 had a home video sales average over 10k per volume, and shows that sell that many discs usually get sequels unless there's not enough material left to animate (a-la Hyouka). Although with the steep decline in anime Blu-Ray sales over the last 18 months for most shows not involving idols or ice skaters, this second season might be lucky to average half that. |

This season feels off to me, probably because it's involving less hijinx and more uneven serious developments.

Yeah, I am underwhelmed with second season too. The first season's "episode 0" was a funny send-up of the ubiquitous fanservice episode, and we all laughed at the joke. But the second time around the joke has worn off so now it is merely a plain old fanservice episode (and a rather mediocre one).
In the first season I loved Tomoya's passion and total dedication to his project, where even his getting stuck in a hotel room overnight with Utaha could not dissuade him from his mission. He had a purity to his quest that was really quite charming to watch. But in the second season we don't see any of that passionate zeal, at least not until near the end of the third episode, and Utaha isn't even present for it. |

I found the shot at Ghost in the Shell in episode 2 hilarious.

I wonder how much of the commercial success (BDs, figurines) can be attributed to Utaha's legs and black stockings. Over the 100s of shows that I've watched, I've seen plenty of fanservice-centered characters, but none of them has the sexiness of Utaha senpai.

^It would probably be difficult to separate how much came from a particular character (I don't know what the sales numbers are for each of the characters). I don't know that I would go that far, but I can't say I don't find that appealing.
That was my first thought when I saw it, but the source material probably predates that movie. You could probably say what they said about most live-action adaptations of anime. |

EP0 ~ Anime original fanservice ep.
EP1 ~ the side stories of the two shorts in the Girl Side volume. (The volume was published after LN7; i.e. around when anime S1 was reaching its conclusion) Ep2 ~ Actual continuation from LN5 (S1 ended at LN4). And it's already been stated that the popularity order was Utaha>Eriri>Megumi before the anime, and after the anime it's become: Megumi>Utaha>Eriri. |

I'm shocked the anime dethroned Utaha as best girl. |

Not that it makes much difference to the episode, but the subs for the game text at the end of Episode 3 have no relation at all to the text onscreen. It's as if they were given the text beforehand, then it was changed but they didn't bother to check that it matched when subbing. Pretty sloppy.

Can't say I'm happy about the change to de-emphasizing Megumi involvement in the events depicted in the anime compare to the LN version so far; even if they may be the setup for, what I believe, the climax event for the season.
Neither the framing, depiction or lead-up to the scene at the end of ep4 could be compare to the way it was in the LN. |

Among the scale figures Miyuki Shiba from Mahouka is the only one not from SAO, Madoka, or High School Fleet.
Among the Nendoroids, the only ones not from SAO, Madoka, or High School Fleet are both from the Fate franchise: Mash Kyrielight and Jeanne d'Arc |

I made these screenshots for somewhere else but they don't really cover the nendo's one level higher. You can clearly see some like Mami, Homura etc if you're familiar with them but I'm sure someone can get better screenshots for those
http://i.imgur.com/DFssjLY.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xIhN5Di.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8jXY4UY.jpg (didn't use img-tag because they're rather big) anyways, on the far left, left to Madoka I'm not actually sure but I think it's the imouto from SAO? I saw him having her in the MMO form, the blond version, as well but not sure if that was season1 or season2 of SaeKano and I think they updated his shelf. Then there's Madoka (from Madoka, duh), Miyuki from Mahouka Homura from Madoka Sinon from SAO https://myanimelist.net/character/137753/Mashiro_Munetani from HighSchool Fleet Yui + Asuna from SAO https://myanimelist.net/character/132751/Akeno_Misaki/ from HighSchool Fleet going from left to right. Anything I'm missing? |

I can identify all the figures later when I get home but all of them where Aniplex characters which the show is also a part of. You also notice one of the posters by Aki's bed is for the new Mahouka Movie coming out next month.

The figures themselves are all made and/or distributed by Good Smile Company, which given that GSC is on the production committee, isn't surprising.
