Uh, kill the game before the Anime starts, Anime is a hit, restart game after Anime ends. Not ready for the big leagues are we?

The game tanked, they were losing money on it. I got the impression the anime was a "lets use up the last of our budget on something creative" and they had no expectation of the anime actually taking off. That it not only took off but became one of the most popular animes of the season shocked them greatly.

Wrong, they ain't got nothing with anime creation. It was multimedia project from the beginning, but anime was in production for one and half of year (because of the small team and completely low budget).
And well, Nexon said before that they're not planning to return the game even after anime was the hit... Seems like that scums don't know how to keep their words when it comes for money.

From what I've read, the game mostly consisted of the Friends doing battle with each other. The anime had the briefest of references to that sort of thing.
Now I'm not much of a gamer, but I know that when I see a show I like with characters I grow attached to, I have absolutely no interest in seeing them fight each other. If the majority of the fans of the show are like me, trying to restart the game would be a waste of money. Keep in mind the game had quite a bit of time to catch on with people who do like that sort of thing, and it just didn't.
There are other avenues available to try to monetize the sudden popularity of the show, that are far less risky than restarting a game that already failed.

I would say that it was bad luck on their part. If they released the game at the same time as the anime, they might've had a success and got their money's worth. If they are really deciding to bring it back, they don't have a large window because people would move on at least until the next season.

In a previous article they had a clip of the game play and it looked boring as hell to me (but I don't play these, so there's that). Just looked like endless grinding and a very limited repertoire of character responses, which got on my nerves just for the couple of minutes I watched. So unless they change things up to better reflect the anime, launching it now isn't going to help make it popular.
