For instance, it has no idea what to do with projectile-based attacks and it loses its cool when its opponent hides in a corner.

Even computers can't deal with camping. lol

Neither Slox or Mafia are primary Falcon mains btw.

Lulz, MIT bot is total casual. NO ITEMS FOX ONLY FINAL DESTINATION.

*cough* Sorry, ancient memes have to get usage whenever they can these days.

I think it would be cool if fighting game AI was based off of ideas like this. Rather than it be characters with attack/defense AI and it's basically the same AI playing every character, it's like a virtual torunament where the actual opponents are virtual people controlling the characters.

You could tweak someone to be riskier, someone else to favor rushing down, someone else to favor turtling and you could apply these different approaches to the game to different characters and that's you fighting the computer.

At that point, stuff like it not be able to deal with projectiles and other flukey things are just flukes that normal players have where there's some stuff they just aren't good at dealing with.

Some time ago there was a racing simulator with an emphasis on programmable AI. Online tournaments would consist of teams submitting pre-programmed AI routines to be used in remotely-run races. A scintillating endeavour from a suitably academic perspective, but a dull one from nearly any other.

Heh, these people should be hired by a game company somewhere that promises impossible AI. Then again, perhaps that shouldn't be a selling point as it would get frustrating real fast. Could work in the arcade environment though.

Well, Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS have the For Glory mode, which is No Items Final Destination all day long. Considering how much more people are on For Glory than For Fun, that meme should continue to stay relevant for a long while.
