Simply put, anime is the animation, manga is the comic book form (usually black & white and read from right to left).

Fanfiction are just called fanfiction, fan-made manga are called doujinshi.

Not knowing what they`are is nothing to be embarassed about. How are you supposed to learn what they are if you just keep quiet and don't ask? Well at least now you do know. Cool

Manga is cheaper. Very Happy Also, some manga out there has better artwork or a better story than the anime itself. (Berserk[last couple volumes] and YYH)

and beware if you search for doujinshi websites, you will probably find something more 'adult' oriented, although there have been some great non adult themed one's out there, for a few, I couldn't tell the difference between the manga from the company, and the fan created, until I looked closely (usually eyes, hair differences)

Isn't most manga read from right to left? Razz To me it seems like it is since many of the companies releasing manga have learned that most people prefer them in their original format.

Yeah, I knew I'd get that mixed up (y'know how if you think about something for too long you get confused? Yeah, that happened...).

Fixing it now.

Many newer manga, such as those from Tokyopop, are read right to left. Also, manga that has an anime counterpart tends to be more mature. E.G. Love Hina.
