Wow. Not even the son of Shobu, but Katta. I haven't even watched DM since the original (not that I watched all the episodes and how it ended) and I'm aware Shobu returned in a later series after Katta replaced him. So did something happen to Shobu for him not to have a son and have him be the protagonist? lol Seems like they are deviating from the original on purpose. Shobu was the spitting image of his dad so it made sense...then there's Katta. They really put "DM" on Joe's head. lol

Eh... Wixoss had fairly normal hair colors and styles. Aside from that though, beats me.

The dub season you mean? It's rubbish even though they tried to turn it into a parody.

Shobu only returned for about an episode in the final series with Katta. Joe being Katta's son directly follows the ending of VSRF, with Katta and his love interest being gone for seven years and then returning.

If by original you mean the Japanese version, it's fun and more comedic than other shows in the same genre. If you mean that short-lived English dub then it's a pure gag dub that pretty much ruined the franchise's chance in America. They spent most of their time making fun of Yu-Gi-Oh and card games in general which would seem to like an odd choice for a marketing show to do but, they did it. Wizards of the Coast seem to mishandle most things they touch, though. Either way it shouldn't be used as a way to judge the franchise.
