To put some perspective into this, it made more than three times as much as Shinkai's record-breaking Your Name...

That seems like a every irreverent and an improper comparison because Pokemon has a huge established fan base from young to old and has been a franchise for over 20 years. where as, Your Name has no established fanbase aside of those interested in the directors work.

If anything, this shows how well Your Name has done than illustrate an accomplishment on the Pokeman Go's part. On top of which, Your Name has yet to be release in the US properly and many other countries, so expect it's number to go up.

It makes me wonder how Niantic's been allocating that money they've earned, as the updates to add new content to Pokémon GO has been astonishingly slow. I hope it's not that the few people who work for Niantic have just been pocketing it all and just sitting back and working every now and then. I thought they REALLY missed out on a golden opportunity by not having the Alola forms available with the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon, for instance, considering they're all Kanto Pokémon.

(I'm guessing most of their resources so far have gone towards opening the game to other regions of the world, and then they'll concentrate on finishing the mechanics they wanted to put in there and later generations.)
