So, I will forgo the console version and by the PC version instead once there's a mod available to mend this? Ok...

I still don't like that they changed it, but I have to give them credit for addressing this fairly quickly.
I'm a bit more willing to forgive them for this because I think they might actually be honest with their explanation. Stabbing/shooting kids even in fiction is pretty frowned upon. It isn't like some of the crap Nintendo has pulled where other games have clearly had similar content and still gotten the rating they wanted. Or at least I can't think of an example, but if I'm wrong, someone feel free to point me to one. Also minor typo in the article:

And here comes the censorship rioting, followed by importing the game as a way of giving the finger to the game company, etc., etc..

Did they ever offer a statement why they censored the swords in Dragon Ball Fusions and replaced them with sticks? If not then I suppose this might also be the reason that game got censored as well.
Killing kids seems taboo in the US if Bethesda games making child NPCs immortal is anything to go by. I figured that was the reason for this change. Xenosaga went through similar censorship on PS2 from what I recall. -Stuart Smith |

Not exactly. The child-like robots still got brutally killed. They just changed Al cutting his head and ar, off with a knife to him just ripping them off. They also changed a scene that looked a little too much like child rape. |

it sucks they change the scene but it still appears to be brutal to me.. .. the kid literally got blasted with magic then pierce with two spear like magic
Am i the only one who thinks we are going overboard with torches before the game even comes out? |

They say that changing the rating wouldn't have allowed them to share it with everyone, I call bullshit!

It's one little (yet important) scene in the whole game. While it still sucks, it's nowhere near the scandal that people are making out of it. Not buying the game because of this is stupid tbh.

Looking at the comparison it looks to me like they Shadow Realm'd it, albeit intentionally. All things considered I'm willing to believe them when they say it's because of the ratings board being a pack of, for lack of a better word, wimps. The original point of the scene, spoiler[Laphicet being brutally murdered while Velvet can only helplessly watch], is still intact and simply modified to be less graphic, so I see no reason to get outraged over this.
Or rather, I see no reason to get outraged at Bamco and boycott the game over it. The ratings board being so weak and conservative to mandate this sort of alteration is another matter entirely. |

After watching both scenes they cleverly edited it to be less brutal looking while still driving home the point of the scene. This was a much better decision than outright removing it or cutting parts of the scene out. This is not something to be up in arms about.

I'm fine with this. If I want gore, might as well play Berserk Musou.

Man how the times have changed.
Sephiroth impaling Aeris was totally fine back in the day (FFVII was still a T rated game), but a black silhouette getting impaled is M rated territory? Okay... |

Anyone else think the censored version is actually better?
Don't get me wrong, I am not in any way saying that censorship is okay so don't go off on one, I just feel that visually, it was far more appealing than your typical sword stab to me at least. |

I guess the rating board had people who are not desensitized to violence.
