That was hilarious, even though he was knocking it hard-f*cking-core. He's not a gamer, and has probably never played a JRPG, so I'm not offended.

I'm not sure why every site is taking this story and running when he tears apart most games he plays on this segment. It's not like any other time he's played a game has warranted its own article, but I guess the potential clicks are just too tantalizing when it's close to FFXV's release. I mean there are like 5 dozens different sites running CONAN OBLITERATES FFX V stories right now.
Glad to see that some of those looking forward to the game have a sense of humor though.

I'm not offended because Final Fantasy has not been all that good since 10-2. but hopefully 15 can at least be better then the god awful 13 trilogy.

I'm watching this right now, but I gotta say that Final Fantasy has more or less lost its charm to me, at least when it comes to the new offerings. Maybe it's because I was introduced to the series during the 16-bit era, but it seems like once the series hit Final Fantasy X and there after, it just really started to lose its appeal. I know this sounds weird, but maybe it's something to do with the fact that the characters and designs have just become too human-like, realistic, and generic looking. Then again, it's not like I was expecting the series to stay the same until the end of time, or hold the same sort of appeal to me nearly 20 years later after the PS1 era ended. I think Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI will always be the holy triad to me. It doesn't help that I feel like I prefer the Active Time Battle system, as opposed to the current system they've been using since Final Fantasy XII?

Conan wouldn't have been kind to any other JRPG you could list.
But I'd agree that most other games get to the point a lot sooner and the open-world mission variety would be lost on Conan.
What I find funny, is that many critics of games these days always talk about the lack of variety, that it's all the same shoot-bang genre and that there's nothing appealing to women or others who would prefer to do other things etc. etc.
But if you were to present that to general audiences other than what gaming is traditionally seen as this is the kind of reaction you'd expect to get.
The mainstream is largely uninterested in the sort of thing gamers actually want where there's unusual variety to bond story-wise with your cast of characters through activities such as this.
They would rather just have side missions that are primarily fetch quests so long as the game's mechanics are at their disposal.
Sad truth there folks, all the appeals to spread the gaming love to the rest of the uninterested and uninvolved is likely going to hit up against these same roadblocks.
Anyway, Conan is not meant to be taken as any serious kind of review about the game's quality. But it does demonstrate how niche a game like FFXV will be in term of appeal to the masses.
And no, it's not like Persona 5 or any other equivalent example is going to fare better with Conan, though arguably other games make make a better first impression out the gates than FFXV's slower opening. Persona 5's first 30 mins would have far more appeal to Conan because f how much more interesting it is, but eventually he's still going to be wondering why you're doing all the other non-combat stuff. And why you're forcing him to go back to high school to study in your video game. And why he has to read all this long uninterrupted text, and there's a talking cat.

I can imagine Conan play games like ICO and still have same reaction. The problem is SE is trying to market FFXV like a AAA western games. As much as FFXV getting all this coverage, the game still is a JRPG and your avarge Joe doesn't enjoy games like this.

Story wise, maybe. In terms of gameplay and mechanics X-2 was solid.

I found myself asking that as far back as FFXII.
There's definitely an attempt to create a "world" in the PS3 FF's, with as much virtual scenery, real-world drudgery and elaborate macro-strategies, but I don't want to "live in a virtual world"...
I want to play a freakin' GAME, and get through the A-B storyline because I know I can!
Which I had no trouble doing during the old turn-based X/X2 days, when the point of the game was how I would think my way through this.
