I know that Xbox Live in Japan have Karas Prophecy in 720P.

Is there any chance we would ever get HD versions in US?

I have no idea. I assume there is always a chance.

I'm glad someone made a Karas thread, though. Now I have a place to ask: Does anyone think that Karas The Revelation is actually going to come out in the USA on Oct 23rd, as it is currently slated for? I'm thinking it's going to be delayed again. How can we get the rest of Karas before the Japanese get their final DVD volume?

Because the Japanese, if I recall, will have other means of seeing it on television and what not. I'm thinking it will be released this time though. We're this close and every retailer still holds the 10-23 release date. The distributors website is still advertising 10-23 when with previous release dates their website never advertised it. Retailers also have all the cover art up this time around which we didn't get any of the other times. Honestly, it's looking pretty promising this time around, there's a lot of signs of release that weren't present the last few times.

As for in HD, there's nothing in the way of a release date for Karas listed on either of the next-gen formats and there's been no press releases to indicate there will be an HD release. It's not impossible that it will occur eventually, but right now it doesn't look like we'll have that option.

Picked up the first volume to watch a bit after it came out last year from work(blockbuster). I was very surprised. Interesting, slightly complex and amazing animation. I love the computer effects but instead of the somewhat realism in Advent Children, they make it look like regular anime.

I'll check our computers tomorrow at work for fun. Just because the computer lists something as coming out on XX day doesn't mean it will, but when it's so close I would assume it would be correct. I'll also see if we have a HD/blu-ray listing.

Well the Sci-Fi Channel has been airing commercials for the second DVD for about two weeks now I'd say they definitely plan to release it.

I checked out Sci-Fi's schedule, and Karas will be airing some time in november on the channel.

Yup it's out the 23rd of october. I just rented a pre-release copy from work.

No sign of hd/blu-ray in the computer however there is a "karas - ltd ed" coming out like november 20th. With a price of 29.99, I assume that'll be the first and second volumes, but can't say because that title is the only real info I can get on our computers there.

Wow, so does that mean you've just seen all 6 episodes of Karas?! You lucky bum! Very Happy Maybe you're one of the first people to get to see the end of Karas!! (I am referring to the 6th episode. I'm sure many people saw the 4th and 5th episodes already on fansubs or something)

I haven't watched it yet actually...been messing with half-life 2 portal. I want to see the first karas dvd again which I think I'll be getting around to now. Hard to remember since I only watched it twice and like what, a year and some months ago when it came out.

"Lucky bum...", one of the very few perks about working there haha. Personally I'd rather be paid better Crying or Very sad , but it is just a stepping stone job. Too bad we don't get regular anime releases though, besides the movies. Other than Howl's, advent children, both karas and recently Tekkonkreet, I can't really think of what else new we have. We have some sailor moon discs..around half or 3/4 of hellsing and berserk. A bunch of somewhat older titles like Lady death, I think the first eva disc, end of eva and death & rebirth(Guess you could just watch the two eva movies..). Gah. The selection sucks but it'd be nice to actually COMPLETE the series we do have.

If I wanted to rent anime I'd have to do it through Netflix or some other such service. My local Hollywood Video used to have a moderate selection of the good stuff but I went there last time to find they'd thrown it all out/sold it all off. I'd seen most of it anyway but still I was somewhat annoyed.

I don't know anything about Karas in particular, but I do know about the anime HD thing and reason why we don't see much of it, courtesy of a panel hosted by one of ADV's founders.

A lot of anime isn't even made in HD format, so obviously that will have to change before we see HD anime out more (though I'm assuming that Karas was made in this format if we are discussing this at all). Apparently the HD anime that has been released wasn't really HD, it was just prettied up in order to make it as close as possible.

Also, the fact that there is no standard format (Bluray vs HD DVD) is going to keep companies from getting on board because the market is being split right now. Once one of the forms becomes dominant however, we'll probably see more in HD.

It is odd that the upscaled Air boxset is still the best selling HD anime release on amazon right now. There is a growing catalog of anime titles that will benefit from HD. Every theatrical release which is mastered in 35mm film will basically look great in HD.

Granted most older television shows and OVAs were mastered on 16mm film and converted to really poor video which is the difference one can clearly see between the older Eva and Bubblegum Crisis and the newer releases for them. Many of these older shows have video masters that are weaker than current standard DVDs.

What needs to be done is for many of these series to get a re-master from their original 16mm to HD. If this is done correctly you can get some dramatic results. Even the old film prints of Zeta were touched up and remastered for the movie theaters. 16mm can look really good in HD, and the limit is not in the original source, but the old video masters for the pre-computer era anime.

I'm not sure about titles from the early 2000s since I think many were scanned into computers for coloring. This would probably mean that these titles are limited to 480 resolution and the best we can hope for is an upscaled image. Many titles from the last couple of years however have been mastered in HD.

I have no idea how digital animes are produced, but I had always hoped that maybe they'd been mastered at Hi-Def (or beyond) resolutions from the very beginning and only get downsampled to 480i SD DVD as the final step in the creative process. Maybe that kind of thinking is too hopeful? It's not as if computer resolutions beyond 700x480 pixels did not exist prior to 2000....

Seriously? Wow, a good week in advance. Really good to hear actual confirmation though. While the evidence all suggested that it was in fact going to come out there was still always a shadow of doubt in my mind since it had been delayed so many times in the past. This pretty much seals the deal, look forward to seeing it in a week.
