I've been yammering about wanting a women's sports anime that isn't moe (like a gender-swapped Haikyuu or something along those lines) over in the Fall Preview Guide, and decided I should move that over here. I won't reiterate my complaints/wants here unless asked to elaborate again, but it got me thinking what else I'd like to see in anime that hasn't been done or done well, or that will never in a million years be done.
As an example of that last one, the latest episode of UtaPri made me realize that now I'd like to see a cross-over anime with ALL the idols: Starish, Heavens, Quartet Night, B-Project (MooNs, KITAKORE, Thrive), Six-Gravity, Procellarum, Starmyu, Shounen Hollywood, Bad Luck, even the Sekko Boys! All of 'em! The boys from Magic-Kyun can come to for added sparkles. It would be glorious and hilarious, since some of them would have the same or nearly the same name and a lot of them would have the same seiyuu - some would even have the same name and the same seiyuu! Mix 'em up sorted by hair color. Then eye color. All Haru(to)'s over here! Names ending in -ji, over there! Aoi's played by KENN and Yuuta's played by Hanae-san, up front! Makes me happy just imagining the chaos. Hell, throw in Beck, DMC, Λucifer, Shingen Crimsonz, and Black Heaven to really shake things up, or give them their own cross-over. There are more things, but I'll just toss it out there for now. Tweak an existing genre to suit you better, create a new one, or skylark about your dream anime. What anime itch do you have that Japan just ain't scratchin'? |

Great question!
The single biggest thing that anime could do for me is lessen its dependence on schoolkids. This, of course, is too much to expect, but can we not at least get a *few* more shows where the protaganists are all adults dealing with adult situations? I almost don't care what the genre, tone or premise would be, as long as there are no frigging schoolkids. Imagine being able to watch a show unencumbered by the obligatory cultural or sports festival episode. Bliss. I would like to see more anime set outside of Japan. Again, simply for the sake of variety. That's it for now. I'll add more specifics as they occur to me. |

Seeing as of recent that adaptations of existing media (LNs, games, etc.) has become popular and mostly the norm now, I'd like to see anime deviate from that trend. I'm tired, maybe growing a bit sick, of the typical battle harem or manga being adapted. Perhaps it's a risk that animation studios don't want to take but try to do more original (not adaptations) shows. It's such a breather from everything else. It's not that I don't enjoy adaptions of various media but sometimes when everything is one, it feels boring. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed a lot of the adaptions but I'd like to see more original stuff like Kabaneri -- it had its flaws but it was still a good fun show for me.

Space Dandy, Ping Pong, One Punch & Mob along with a few others have certainly satisfied my visual needs of late but...
I'm still dreaming about more of Satoshi Kon's world brought to life on the screen. Pains me to think about it. what we could've savored. oh well. and the Anime world not realizing that using the medium for more low key, subtle and soft is a good thing. I'd love to see Kiriko Nananan's "Blue", brought to an intimate, animated life with an A-list creative team. or something similar sans the symbolism and over the top looks. That or an entire series done in the style of a Hime Kagura period piece. Filled with traditional instrumental sounds, lush, triple x background porn and topped off with Sainkoku words of wisdom. I know it'd take a lot of money for the industry to bring forth the stuff I'm craving. Never mind doing it on a consistent basis. That's crazy, but I'm more than happy to stick around for what I consider to be my kind of gems. With or without the budget. Seems there are always a few that shine brighter than the others. |

I just wish that anime (and manga) could get over its current fixation on inhumanly large, gravity defying, bubble boobs. In several series they have gone beyond large to "oh my god, how does she stand erect". I find this a distraction from the story and not at all attractive.

While I don't find those shows to be spectacular or anything, and I wouldn't really mind if they disappeared, I do kinda like their familiarity. Being familiar with them, makes it possible to appreciate small differences. However I'd like to see multiple pairings from those shows more often. Harems kind of annoy me because it's usually obvious who is going to win. I mean, Mahouka has multiple pairings and it's doing pretty well. Though it also has something like 4 girls crushing on Tatsuya so maybe it's not the best example. I guess something like an alternative history anime where Germany won WW2 could be cool. I find that kind of scenario to be really fasciniting. Wait... is Jin-Roh exactly that? Hmph, maybe I should check it out... some day. |

It's probably the influx of school tournament/magical academy type of harems that are probably bothering me. I mean, I enjoy some a fair bit but the same old formula being constantly used honestly makes me feel like I'm watching the same show most of the time with different character designs. To be fair, they each do have their own take but I really can't find anything "unique" about one series that jumps to mind. At best, for me at least, they're average and at worst they're a forgettable show that I put my time into. Not exactly the worst things to say but I'd like them to be more memorable. Regarding pairings, that's also a bit tricky to talk about. The show usually ends before there's a winner which may sometimes work out since y'know, fan favorites and shipping wars. Inconclusive endings suck but having the "worst girl" win is worst (cough, looking at you KoiChoco! The 12th episode does not exist in my world!). But if you want series that has a semi not obvious pairing, I know of two (one of which I sort of complete). They would be Mashiro Iro Symphony and Shuffle!. Oh, lets not forget School Days (if you can even count it as a harem), that had some other unexpected ending. |

Yeah, I've seen those. spoiler[Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka] has a slightly unexpected pairing too.
Nice boat. |

You are right on the proverbial money there! Jin-Roh is as fascinating and focused as it is bleak. That its director went on to create the upbeat A Letter to Momo is nothing if not surprising. |

Actually, you know what I'm really jonesing for these days? Is a really gory and sexy horror title that is genuinely scary. I'd like it to have a serious, adult tone, like Monster, and have adult sex in it (i.e. characters having sex in a realistic, hot way). A quality horror hentai series, I guess? Whether the horror is supernatural or not doesn't really matter to me as long as it was actually SCARY. And sexy. Don't forget the sexy.

You know what I'd like?
A magical girl series that is, I don't know...actually yuri? One that is romantic? I would go into detail on what I mean, but maybe for another post here. But yes, would love a yuri magical girl, but that's just asking too much. Oh, and instead of a cutesy, typical "cute girls doing cute things with sprinkles of yuri", we get a cutesy, but not so cheerful and not so typical schoolgirl series that is...quite a show if you ask me. What I mean is, it looks like it gives the impression that is a typical cutesy lighthearted schoolgirl series but its really just violent, dark, edgy, lots of adult situations dealing with subjects like gangs, homophobia, prostitution, murder, rape, sex trafficking, drug use and schoolgirl fights. It is mostly a mix between, Ikki Tousen(without the constant pantie shots), Tokyo Tribe, Higurashi, Durarara, Yuru Yuri(minus the comedy), and a small sprinkle of Black Lagoon. It is also supposed to be a yuri series, but mixed with action and has small elements of horror. I won't go into detail on the age of these girls but lets just say it makes Kodomo no Jikan look like Sesame Street. I'll just leave it at that. This would be quite difficult to make knowing the current state of moe/loli anime/manga. Oh, and the music should have a Silent Hill/Serial Experiments Lain feel to it especially with that electric guitar. Last edited by Heishi on Wed Oct 19, 2016 9:11 pm; edited 2 times in total |

So...you want them pre-kindergarten? I mean KnJ are 3rd graders, so it kinda is Sesame Street. |

More cool and bleack cyberpunk sci fi like Blame and Gunnm adapted. You know, stuff like Ergo Proxy and Texhnolyze. They are not making that kind of stuff anymore IMO, although it's essentially a rare thing.
Also, I wish they made more great pure moe stuff like Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, Hidamari Sketch and K-On!, now they are not making great moe anymore. |

YES YES YES, this. Post-apocaliptic, dark shows. Would love to see something along the lines of Ergo Proxy and Texhnolyze, and I would be even more ecstatic if someone came up with something along the lines of Wolf's Rain. I loved this series so much and there has not been anything quite like it ever since. Or even, like, you know, Cowboy Bebop. or (OMG, I am just getting excited at a thought of it) more Vampire Hunter D films made by Yoshiaki Kawajiri. Or anything else made by him. And generally some more adult stuff. And there is not enough. I have an impression I most of the good ones, and have not seen much new in this area coming up in the recent releases. Like, sometimes there is one, but not that great, and sometimes the whole season offers nothing interesting to myself. I really liked the idea of Hyouge Mono, that had adult characters and don't think there we get enough of it, although I can also see it is quite a small niche within the market and probably does not make enough money for this type of anime to be made. |
