Lots of Leiji Matsumoto stuff but no Galaxy Railways season 2.
Of the titles mentioned, I'm Interested in: Galaxy Express 999/Railways OVA Lupin the 3rd Series 2 Part 1 Lupin the 3rd: Return the Treasure I also have Arpeggio of Blue Steel and Strike the Blood on my buy list too. |

More Leiji Matsumoto anime is always, always welcome. Still hoping someone picks up Ozuma, not the greatest but the first Leiji show I saw and fell in love with.
That was my first thought as well and is what is keeping me from buying the first season or these OVAs, having an incomplete collection would gnaw at me. |

Had the old Bandai Eat-Man '98 DVD release for years, but never did get around to seeing the original series - I remember considering collecting it on VHS at one point - so this is great news.
Important reminder about the '98 dub: They only dubbed two episodes to begin with. So while it's unfortunate that's missing, it's not as big a loss. |

Oh, neat. I was thinking about getting a copy of Gun Frontier recently, but the price of its volume 3 had deterred me from doing so. So that's nicely timed with their announcement.
I'm still quite excited about several of these upcoming releases. You stay awesome, Discotek! |

You're probably going to hate it more when you actually watch the series... It really needs a Ghost Stories-style dub. Hell, ALL of these need a dub. Friggin Discotek... |

Looks like a solid slate of new releases! I might as well use the opportunity to post my Discotek wishlist.
First off, I'd love to see more classic Toei Douga films get brought over. One that comes to mind is Little Prince and the Eight Headed Dragon (1963) - My favorite game of all time, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker borrowed heavily from this movie's visual style, and I'd love to see what other similarities there are. Flying Phantom Ship (1969) is another Toei Douga contender, featuring early robot designs from Hayao Miyazaki. Then there is The Tale Of The White Serpent from 1958, the first color anime feature film and Gulliver's Travels Beyond The Moon from 1965 The Tetsujin 28-go series from 2004 looks fun. I love its mix of super retro character designs and modern animation. It was based on a series localized in the west as Gigantor, but this iteration never got brought over. White Fang Story (1982) - Okay, I'm getting pretty obscure here, but I stumbled upon this charming little movie on YouTube and ended up liking what I saw of it, despite the lack of subtitles and the ugly VHS footage. I'd love to watch a DVD version. Based only on its trailer, Arion/Neo Heroic Fantasia Arion from 1986 looks like an awesome mythology action movie with impressive animation. I have a lot of nostalgia for Zoids Chaotic Century and Zoids Century Zero from their days on Toonami. Seems like they'd be right up Discotek's alley. And, of course, there's Future Boy Conan, but it looks like we'll have to wait a long time for that one to get brought over, it seems. |

At the very least, I'd be surprised if they didn't have their eye on the rest of it. Otherwise, I don't see why they would bother picking up the interquel OVA. And of course, buying the OVA is the best way to increase the odds of getting the 2nd season. That's a bit of a double edged sword though. Discotek hoping fans will buy enough copies of the OVA to justify them picking up the 2nd season, but fans are hesitant to buy the OVA if there's no guarantee they'll also be able to get the 2nd season too. |

Can anyone explain why Eat-man/Eat-man 98 is sub only?

Karate Master releases one day before my birthday, nice timing. Definitely getting that and the Lupin stuff in December.
I'm not very familiar with the new titles they've picked up, but I've had my eye on Cosmo Warrior Zero and Gun Frontier so I might get those. |

Also there was a Blu-ray box set released last year in Japan but it was upscaled using the composite R2 DVD masters so that's not a big loss either.
animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2005-12-09 animenewsnetwork.com/buried-treasure/2008-02-28 Looks like neither did very well for Bandai which would explain why the original was stuck in VHS Hell until now and as already mentioned, 98 did have a dub but only for 2 episodes. |

I remember Eat-Man was a bit of an odd duck-- With the strange concept and funny Marcie glasses of the main hero, you went in expecting it would be some quirky oddball title like One Punch Man, only to see the action stories turn dark, cynical and Bebop-noirish. Sort of like the tonal shift in Trigun from humor to grit-action, only here they don't bother for humor once the concept is established. (Although there were so many variations in the early-anime days, I can't recall whether it was the original, '98 or OVA version that our local disk rental had to watch out of nowhere. So many versions came out in the early US Bandai/Pioneer days, to help Chii85's question, I don't even remember which of them even HAD dubs.) |
