Somehow I doubt that the way Triple A hype releases are going particularly for the PS4 but okay good luck I guess. It can only be a good thing if they cut down on these bloated and overly long development cycles which I'm reasonably certain they just do so they can retool marketing gimmicks and the like anyway.

Hinted at coming out in 2018? Alright then I'll be awaiting its release in 2019.

I'll be honest, I want to play this game and the last video games I played with any seriousness were Pokemon Black and SSB for the 3DS.
Hopefully the hype doesn't overshadow the actual game when it does come out, because so far what little we do know sounds fascinating.

I am more on the opposite side of it, anything that will insure that there is some level out quality to a game I am more than willing to endorse. If Kojima wants to spent three years on a project (this is despite my massive hate for the man), let him. I might hate the man and the games that he does manage to make, but players deserve a quality experience when they are more than willing to shell out money for it.
If that it what Kojima wants, let him have it. Just keep him within budget, and you are good.

Why hate a man simply because you don't like the games he makes? It just comes off as obnoxious to me.

I have to say the teaser trailer for this game is brilliant in that it shows nothing of the game, and yet somehow makes the game intriguing from all the mysterious weirdness in the trailer. Or maybe it's just because the image if beached whales reminds me of Life is Strange, a game I really loved just for its story.
As for the whole female protagonist thing, does that mean we have a choice of protagonist characters, or is it that Norman Reed is not actually a playable character? If we do have a choice in characters, that could end up with very different experiences considering the actors are bound to play their parts very differently. Perhaps they went so far as to make two different storylines then? I just have so many questions. Their press releases make me more confused not less.

No offense but there's nothing reasonable about your claim. Complaining about overly long development cycles when the average is about 1-4 years depending on the game, compared to the few months to 2 year average of the 8 and 16 bit era makes very little sense. And then simply attributing these development cycles to something so....unimportant as marketing "gimmicks" based off little more than a wonky hunch.

I don't care for Gabe Newell but I keep my dislike for the man and my feelings of Valve under wraps

3-4 years development is about the average length of development for a high quality title. I anything more games should take this approach and stop churning out annual releases which leads to franchise fatigue, precisely what Ubisoft learnt with Assassin's Creed.
The key idea for a big developer would be to have multiple teams on multiple projects simultaneously so that every year you'd have a product out, but still taking a good 3-4 years to complete. Of course that all depends on the scale of your title.
I'd personally rather see a new Metal Gear for instance every 4-5 years rather than every year.

I don't think so. Most likely Reedus is the only playable character. I believe the actual translation we got earlier said female heroine, which could just mean a major supporting character. Most likely Kojima would want to focus on Reedus as the main guy, considering his celebrity whom they will focus on for marketing which would no doubt be costly to go for another high caliber actress, outside of a supporting role. Otherwise that's mean more work and writing and mo-cap etc. for a second high profile actress. Or it would just be squandered by having to choose which character to market more in your trailers. Not a problem if it's a supporting heroine.
More likely he'll do a similar thing as he did with buddies in MGSV, where the female heroine could fight alongside you.

I don't think they learned their lesson to the same extent Activision and EA did with Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
