Who would even befriend Kaiba anyway(aside from money mongrels lol)?
I remember watching YuGioh as a kid in english dub and literally went to punch the TV screen because he's a total scum and an utter sore loser.
Well, he's got good brotherly instinct though... for that I commend him.

When one is wealthy and a high-ranking official of a powerful corporation, friends aren't much of importance to him/her. At least Seto does have a soft spot for his sibling Mokuba.

Well if I remember well, in the manga he saves both Yugi and Joey from drowning in during the Battle City tournament arc when Joey was mindcontrolled by Marik/Malik. In the anime, Joey is simply saved by Serenity.
Still, in the first volumes of the series of the manga, he and even his younger brother are incredibly horrible before the Pegasus arc.

lol Amazing. I agree with TsudaKen. I wouldn't be friends with Kaiba. Death-T speaks for itself(Jounouchi will have a field day telling that story) . His suicide attempt at DK speaks for itself. The one thing I could ever like Kaiba(outside of TsudaKen's amazing voice) for is that realized Dark Malik was a psycho(ironic moment for Kaiba) who was too dangerous for society. Had DM won, he was going to blow up Alcatraz(coincidentally fell in line with his original plan). Yugi is too nice of a guy to keep adding the "kun" suffix to his name, which is why I was disappointed when I heard him say that in the movie. Speaking of the movie, I'm actually rooting for Kaiba this time because I love what he's turned back into and I want him to get over a certain stepping stone so he can reach his goal.

If TV Trope's summary is right he apparently decided to wait before dropping the key into the water in the manga.

Why doesn't this surprise me? From what I've seen of the "Yu-Gi-Oh!" series, old Seto Kaiba would be considered a very nasty piece of work. One of his few redeeming qualities is that he cares a lot for his little brother Mokuba. If that's the way his Japanese voice actor thinks of him, does his English voice actor feel the same way? It wouldn't surprise me if it did.

But this movie it's from Toei? It's not Gallop like the DM anime?

I wouldn't want to be friends with Kaiba at all, well maybe his dueling rival but that's about it.

It IS animated by Gallop, Toei is only listed as distributor which probably means theatrically in Japan which wouldn't be the first time they had done so for non-Toei anime (see the 90s Evangelion movies).

I love how loud Tsuda's Kaiba is. While I wouldn't be friends with either Kaiba nor Kaiser, you can't go wrong with Jack and Kaito. And maybe Reiji, if he actually is even around.
Hell, Kaiba is the biggest sore loser of the entire franchise, he's the fusion of Vegeta and Batman.
Kaiser gets depressed for losing and after a while he doesn't mind that, Jack embraces his loss, then he needs a bit of recovery and then he goes on, Kaito never lost to the protagonist, and Reiji is invincible right now.
Kaiba can't except to lose to somebody. If it wasn't for his popularity, he would never be that heroic in the anime. He got two filler arcs for himself.

I think of the many anime/manga jerks I've encountered, Kaiba and Sasuke Uchiha might be the biggest for non-harem main characters.
