In light of the Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions film, which opened in Japan on April 23 and will premiere next year in North America, ANIME NOW! interviewed the Japanese voice of Seto Kaiba, Kenjirō Tsuda. In the interview, Tsuda reveals that even after voicing the character for the last 15 years, he wouldn't want to be friends with him.
"I definitely don't want to become friends with him. I don't think anyone really does," he said while laughing. He also added that if he ever met Kaiba he would say "Glad to see you're doing well" and "I'm always in your care."
Despite Kaiba's disagreeable nature, Tsuda said the he is a strong, unique character and he has grown to enjoy voicing him even more as time has passed.
Kazuki Takahashi's original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga has run in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since 1996. Takahashi himself wrote the film's script and story, designed the characters, and acted as executive producer. The film commemorates of the manga's 20th anniversary.
Tsuda also added some advice for those going to see the film.
"There are lots of points I'd like people to look out for, but in my opinion, Kaiba has powered up a lot--I think it'd be great if those who watch the movie would do their best to try and keep up with him."
The film sold the highest number of pre-sale tickets of any Toei film. It is also scheduled to appear in theaters in Taiwan on September 15, Hong Kong on October 13, Malaysia on November 24, and in Singapore on December 1.
