I've seen other smiths attempt it, mostly by just cutting out larger sheets of metal and downscaling it. The problem is just the sheer size makes it probably too dangerous if not impossible to forge from scratch, despite it's really simple blade design.

Having seen what they've made in the past if they wanted to I am sure they could find a way to do so.
