Projected gross is 6 billion yen? That's huge! This isn't like Conan and One Piece, so how can they expect that kind of money given Shinkai having notorious fans outside Japan. But still, good luck! I hope they can somehow reach a close number to their expected value.

I really want to see this film. From the trailers it looks like Shinkai's most lighthearted feature film, and I like the premise. Also, I freaking love Masayoshi Tanaka's character designs, so there's that.

Good Lord! That's a LOT of money for something like this! I guess I haven't seen the grosses for any of his prior films, so I don't have too much of a benchmark, but I really didn't expect him to be on par, or surpassing Mamoru Hosoda's stuff. I was expecting more like Anthem of the Heart figures, something like a total gross of $8-$10 million, but to more or less pull that in in the first 2 days with projections of $50+ million is pretty incredible. Well, good for him. I like Shinkai's stuff. I hope it gets a theatrical release near me.

I don't care about the money. The story sounds like a touching one that I would love to see, but not because of all those $$$ figures being thrown around. Quality in art is not reliably measured by money.

I'm not sure what your point is. THEY care about money because it is what allows them to keep making art. Whether or not you do is irrelevant.

I hope FUNimation doesn't take it's sweet time to release it in the US... I mean, it's fine if they take their time, but please don't release by the end of next year or something like that...

I saw this at Anime Expo, personally it's Shinkai's best movie yet.

It will earn more. Unlike Conan and One Piece, it won't be frontloaded since it's not a franchise movie.

Some of the best artists died poor or were undervalued. Many of the biggest fools are rich even today.
Money does not mean quality.

I understand that. Many of my favorite creators lack popularity and financial success. But I don't understand why someone would point out that they "don't care about the money" here. No one was claiming that the film was good because it has made a lot of money.
