Sounds like a pretty solid idea. Having the showfloor inundated with a handful of shows really can be a pain if you're one of the people who doesn't care for it.
Kinda sad that both Gintama and Prince of Tennis aren't popular enough to merit their own categories anymore. That's the passage of time, I guess. I'm surprised Idolm@ster and Love Live hadn't been given their own categories sooner, though; those have been big for a while now.

Love Live and iDOLM@STER are kind of in their own class when it comes to the moe anime and music circles. On a lot of online Japanese hobby shop and anime goods stores they have their own subsections on the front pages similar to Gundam and Macross. Both also have their own board on 2ch as well. I'm sure many will or already have updated to include Osomatsu-San as it's own section well.

This seems like a uniquely terrible idea.

Nice pic of choice for the news' thumbnail, ANN
This is definitely a good idea. There are so many popular series out there so it is better that they get categorized. Very, VERY happy that Love Live has its own category.

Would it not make sense if seinen manga was combined with josei instead of shoujo?

Well a lot of people who love Idolm@ster will like Love Live so having both in the same section is a good idea.

Well as certain series continue to grow in popularity it is best to separate them into their own category and combine the ones that aren't so popular into a single category.

Kinda surprised World Trigger is getting its own category as its anime lost its timeslot to a sports show I think. Though that may be more Toei's execution of the anime than a reflection of the popularity of the series.
Yeah Love Live and Idolm@ster definitely need their own categories. Heck you could practically make a separate event with just those two, though more IM@S than Love Live considering how many girls there are to choose from in the former between the original, Cinderella Girls, and Million Live, though the Sunshine anime should boost Love Live.

Wouldn't be surprised to see both of them getting their own doujinshi conventions, similar to the yearly Touhou cons.

Maybe there are themtic similarities between doujinshi of seinen manga and shoujo manga...? But it doesn't make sense to me either.

World Trigger also ranks pretty low on the WSJ polls, though I've read that it's because of its author's failing health and subsequent erratic schedule. I didn't know it was popular enough to get its own section at Comiket, also considering that, unlike the other series getting their own sections, I've barely seen any World Trigger merchandise.

Think of it from the point of crowd management. It is likely they were combined because they have different audiences. If both areas are low to medium traffic combining them will increase traffic to that area with the effect of reducing traffic in jammed up areas.
