NNK2 companion app incoming. NNK had a mobile game so it won't be surprising.

Its how they will execute their smartphone games that will either make them profitable or crash. Not sure if Level-5 can do that.

The majority of their recent games have been either point and click adventures or easily ported to tablets. If they want to go down that route, by all means as long as they treat their customers and staff with respect unlike Konami.

If this really is the case, Level-5 are setting themselves up for a disaster trying to completely shift their attention to the mobile market. If they're only developing mobile games on the side, however, then I don't see much of a problem with that.
It's unfortunate that the initial game of Yōkai Watch didn't sell that well despite the anime show having okay ratings, Americanization issues aside. Then again, Yōkai Watch 2 does have plenty of features that the initial installment doesn't (trading, online battling, befriend-able Boss Yōkai, etc.), so I'm not surprised by its underwhelming performance. |

It actually did better in America than in the first year in Japan. 400k copies is a lot. |

Well...Yes...400,000 copies is huge, but compared to the midstream gaming title pulling in at least around 1 million copies, on average, it still seems pretty underwhelming, even if it did fare better here in the U.S.; in fact, even Akihiro Hino himself said that the sales aren't nearly sufficient to his satisfaction. That said, I'm not ready to call Yōkai Watch a total fallout yet. I think the performance of Yōkai Watch 2 will be the key of determining its true success or failure. |

The smartphone game market and the Bermuda Triangle have a lot in common, when you think about it.

Mobile game market in Japan - increased to more than $4 Billion
Traditional video game market in Japan - declined to less than $2 Billion That's just the reality of the situation there. Incidentally, if ya guys wanna know comparatively how low $2B is now, here's the US video game market for comparison: ![]() |

![]() I will miss you Level-5 I will remember you to tell future generations about a game developer that used to be beloved before falling into obscurity, before going bankrupt. |

They got their 4 billion by preying on the vulnerable and the rich and stupid, the F2P mobile market can be compared to Madoff's ponzi scheme or Enron, it's a tyrant hole selling money pits to untold numbers of people who can't control themselves. A week ago I seen a user on twitter show a pic of 3 million yen ($28,000 US) and spending it all on Deresute. It's sicking how the mobile industry in Japan is, there needs to be serious regulations or we'll be losing whole genres to this madness. |

Just because the games are compatible with smartphones doesn't necessarily mean they won't run on consoles too (or more specifically handhelds)
