Let me get this straight the director wants to fit everything IN ONE MOVIE you would have a better chance of fitting a T-Rex into a Smart Car than fitting all that story into just one two hour movie. Rolling Eyes

I've learned something new today; There are two kinds of CGI, the kind they don't want you to notice and the kind they do want you to notice.

"Hey, it's CGI, it's not part of the scene. It's sticking out, distracting me." Are these kind of scenes intended in Japanese film? I just thought they ignored things like CGI Godzilla looking shiny and out of place. I didn't realize that they expected it?

I get Gonzo now. A thousand scenes suddenly make sense...

Maybe - and this is me desperately hoping - when he says "one movie" he means he doesn't have any sequels planned but he's still only going to cover the first couple volumes.

I already have ridiculously low expectations for this, but I'm going to pray they aren't that stupid.

When did that happen?

Back to the subject, I have to say this: And people accuse Hollywood of screwing up movies based on anime? You know, back when "Lord of the Rings" was in development, they thought about just shoving all three books into one movie. There's a reason why it was a trilogy: it wouldn't work as just one movie. FMA is a series that would have to be a trilogy or even a quadrillogy in order to work. Here's how I'd make it work.

Movie 1: Start from the beginning and end with the Elrics' encounter with Scar.
Movie 2: Start with the Elrics learning about the Philosopher's stone and fighting Barry the Chopper, and end with the fight with Greed.
Movie 3: Start from when the Elrics meet the Xingese people and end with Ed, Ling, and Envy spoiler[getting swallowed by Gluttony].
Movie 4: The rest of the story.

I mean they are already gonna miss on authenticity for a lot of roles.

I wish he could have tried to get a company in the west on board with his film.

I'm glad we got some more details about the film, but I'm still a bit skeptical about it and to hear that Ed will actually be 20? Is he doing a continuation of the manga? Or is he doing an alternate story where Ed is 20 instead of 15 spoiler[and still has his alchemy and his automail arm and Al's soul is still in the suit of armor unlike in the manga and Brotherhood]?

I want to like the film but I'm not sure yet. I'm worried about how the film will turn out. Anime catgrin + sweatdrop Anime smile + sweatdrop Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

Here's to hoping the film will turn out right. spoiler[Though I have doubts.]

If they are doing only one movie, to me it will make sense to adapt 3 manga arcs that reflect the tone and major themes of the story. Regardless of how they do it, I have very little confidence that this live-action movie will do justice to the original story.

Regarding the faithfulness of the adaptation, which has characters of non-Japanese ethnicity, the director said, "There will never be a scene in which a character says something that would identify him/her as Japanese."

I guess they wont use the Japanese honorific like "-san,-kun,-sama,-senpai"
or something like that

Other cast members include:

Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro
Ryuta Sato as Maes Hughes
Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye
Natsuna as Maria Ross
Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes
Yo Oizumi as Shou Tucker
Jun Kunimura as Doctor Marco
Yasuko Matsuyuki as Lust
Kanata Hongou as Envy
Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony
Kenjiro Ishimaru as Father Cornello

Oh boy, dont tell me they are gonna make that infamous scene? Mad

Will it be worse than Dragon Ball Evolution? it's loking that way!

That's a horrible comparison, DBE was a Hollywood movie while FMA is not. At least please compare it with recently failed Japanese Live Action movie like Attack on Titan.

well it is a very important part of the story, one of the main turning point for the Elrics so to leave it out would be a mistake

Aging Ed up is one thing (it's very common to age up characters in any adaptation), squeezing 27 volumes of manga into one film is quite another. Unless he's filming it as one movie, but will break it up and release it in separate parts, ala Lord of the Rings or Kill Bill.

Is Hiromu Arakawa is involved as a consultant? I think that would put fans minds at ease.

Condensing 27 volumes into one movie? Yeah, that is so not going to end in disappointment and disaster right there! Rolling Eyes

Once again, where's the Hollywood version getting announced?
