Could never stand Hulu just from an internet streamer standpoint. Play issues and their ad amounts always turned me off. This is just another reason to never use their services.
But honestly if you're an anime fan who has spent at least 5 minutes on the internet you should be able to find a place to watch anime that comes off better than Hulu. |

Is there a way to see which shows are being removed, either as a master list or as an indication on the show's page itself? I didn't see an expiration notice on the pages for shows Justin cited, like Mekakucity Actors or The Rose of Versailles.

The worst thing about this is a good chunk of the Bandai Visual series like Galaxy Angel and The Daichis are still not rescued by any licensor in particular, so them going off Hulu is basically kissing any legal means to watch them goodbye, unless you like spending $400 a pop on scalped DVDs. They better have a backup plan in mind, since Loy posts on Fandom Post I assume he'll probably have an answer to that (but I doubt we'll get one, or it'll be "we're not dealing with any streaming services anymore, sorry")
Thank god I chose to watch Jigen's Gravestone today before it goes off. I'm still burned by Nadesico being taken off while I was watching it, but at least Nozomi stuff showing up on CR means it'll probably be on there. I guess I'm never using Hulu after watching Jigen. The only reason I had to watch it before was Hey Arnold!, and that was before I bought the DVD boxset. They've lost my service. |

I like to if possible watch everything legally. With Hulu loosing much of it's anime back catalogue their will be a number of shows that don't have a legit legal home anymore and that sucks. |

I've been expecting this for several months now; New series were getting fewer and fewer for each season, AoA dropped out entirely and Sentai... who knows what they do.
So I joined Funi's sub service. They have absolutely no idea how set up a player; no buffering so no rewind, every video distorts twice for me when it starts... Anime Network is filed under CR's pirate service so even if I pay them- second hand at that, I gather- I get new shows four weeks behind schedule and as for the pirates, it's all the more reason to be a pirate myself, huh? That she blows and all that. Avast, yo ho... |

Never could get into Hulu while I was in the States. I used Youtube and Netflix for my streaming needs. And then I did go the less legal ways at times for my anime, but that's changed quite a bit lately.

Oh, shucks. I hadn't even thought about Lagrange; I may need to dig out a proxy and try marathoning the second season*
* The reasons I haven't seen it are somewhat complicated: there was a season on Kaze's then UK subscription streaming site where Lagrange S2 was the only new show so I did not bother re-subscribing. The following season (and until the site closed down) all content was free, however Lagrange was still behind the paywall but there was no way to tender payment any more. Kaze have never released the show on disc here. |

Thanks for the info. I've been hearing about this and this article is really insightful. Personally, I never watch Hulu. WAY too many ads that are impossible to turn off. It actually turned me off to all streaming anime for a while until I watched my friend's Netflix. So much better!! I wish everything that was on Hulu was on Netflix too
 I'd actually get a subscription.

Youtube Red is pure lose, I can't support them financially after what they pulled with Japanese and some Korean music locking a lot of it on YTR. Send them to Crunchyroll or somewhere else.

I've been using Hulu now for the past 2 years and when they released their ad-free plan, I dropped money on it. It works for me as I watch alot of America shows like Gotham and my wife watches shows on it.
From an anime standpoint, I actually watch very few from Hulu. I'm not sure why but the platform just doesn't ring "Anime" to me. Netflix feels more like a comfortable spot for it cause I feel Netflix deals in more "niche" genres and shows. Hulu is the place I go to for the new hot show in town, but not for stuff that's been out for a long time. |

My problem with Hulu has always been the ads. It's one thing if it was just for free members, but they even showed ads for premimum members, or did for a long time. I heard there is a membership package, but it costs more.
Personally it's why I avoid Hulu and stick with Crunchyroll, Funimation, and now Netflix for Anime. Hell, Netflix is expanding their original anime content, and seems to develop a close partnership with Aniplex. The plus side is the membership with these sites is cheaper then the Hulu free option, and with no ads. I do understand if you are with Hulu, then chances are you are with them beyond just anime since they get many network shows. I've decided to keep cable, but through Playstation Vue since I like Adult Swim, AMC, and sports. I digress, but I feel like the best route for anime is Crunchyroll and Funimation. Both show simulcast subs within hours of their Japanese broadcast, and Funimation is even having simulcast dubs within a couple of weeks of the original air date. I give them credit for pushing quick turnarounds since at one time you wouldn't see a show stateside until months, or years later in some cases. I say forget Hulu for anime, and focus on anime only sites. |

I remember reading an article a few years back about how the "magic of the online storage" is shallower and not so reassuring from what most people think it is. As noted in the column, things like licencing fees & royalties, coding, organizing, bandwidth, power, wages for the staff handling it, and so on are not cheap, and that isn't getting any cheaper with every new addition to the catalog.
So, as the article I read put it, just like brick-and-mortar stores, once an item's usefulness in diminished beyond the point of keeping it in stock, they'll stop selling it. While the medium has changed, the basic principle behind it has not. I guess the real down point here is since the higher-ups only now start to "clear the shelves," the amount is staggering (triple-digit number of titles that are to deleted). |

They are apparently keeping season 1 of K, because it's not showing the expiration warning when I mouse over, but not Return of Kings and probably not Missing Kings either (which they had in a ridiculous place not connected to anything so you couldn't find it, but that's a different story).
Missing Kings and Return of Kings are not out on disc yet. They're also not streaming anywhere but Hulu. I had Hulu as a duplicate/triplicate of everything else I liked (which are all on Crunchy/FUNi/Netflix AND disc). Except this. And yes, the first season is better, but how am I supposed to go a whole week without watching spoiler[Saruhiko and Misaki get back together]? VIZ. FIX THIS. DUB IT NOW. |
