I want to facepalm at the idea of this actually being added, but since I know of other cringe-worthy words that have either been added or considered for addition, I feel like all I'm going to do is hurt myself.
I admit to using the "Notice me, senpai!" phrase at cons or in joking terms with my husband, however. >.> |

Since kawaii is accepted by Oxford Dictionary of all things, this doesn't surprise me too much. For better or worse, English doesn't have a government agency dictating official words like, for example, Spanish.
I kind of wish they didn't base it on the meme but ah well. Just goes to show you that anime js a prominent niche. |

To further oppose the addition, the definition exists exactly in this one meme. At best it's idiomatic, but it's hardly something that belongs in a dictionary of single words.
EDIT: Thinking it over a bit, their proposed definition really belongs as a usage note(eg, "Often used as an indistinct target of affection, ex, 'Notice me senpai'"). |
