It's always a thrill to see what unexpected something or someone becomes a meme just like those cat bra things a few months back.

So this is why I've been seeing this on my Twitter TL today. Also, those cat bra things still haven't stopped...

Yup. So much better than the old designs imo. It also inspired something else.
All those duel disks, and you choose ZEXAL. |

In Splatoon, I wonder how well Ellen would fare in a turf battle while being an Inkling for a day?

There are many types of forced meme, for example Kancolle's Akagi meme meme = people trying hard to make it funny when the original pic doesnt even like make people laughed DanMachi Hestia's blue string meme = this one is sooo overhyped, I dont know what so great with this thing? This meme looks like cooled down now since anime adaptation is finished. Other meme like turtleneck sweater and cat lingerie doesnt bother me because it seem on normal level Not that I dislikes Ellen Baker, she is really cute but I just dont get the hype. On a positive note, this might make more Japanese people interested to learning English so it is not bad either |

Probably not very, considering she can't turn into a squid. (To my knowledge.)
Depends on the scale of the meme. Every meme I know of that's related to a work of fiction or a commercial product creates a permanent rise in popularity of the source material, but the size of that rise is directly proportional to the popularity of the meme. Memes related to Kung Pow! Enter the Fist are so numerous, for instance, that I believe the movie remains a cult hit because of them. Also, I thought a forced meme was a meme whose creator intentionally engineered to make into a meme. I can think of Pinside's "Lionman" meme last year as an example; its creators purposely made it look like a meme by posting it incessantly there (evident in how there is no real origin for "Lionman" nor any humor in it besides its meme status), and it caused other people to genuinely take it as a meme. That being said, it never escaped Pinside, but boy, was it EVERYWHERE there during the few months "Lionman" was active. ("Lionman" is not on Know Your Meme, so I take it there are no Pinsiders there. It's also the least developed meme I know--its entire course as a meme consisted of an image of Lionman, a character from 80's high fantasy Swords of Fury, copied over and over on Pinside. I have never seen it graphically edited or text superimposed over it. Everyone literally just used the image as it was for no reason other than it was memetic.) |
