I don't see the appeal of live action films for series like this. Even going super rushed, you couldn't really cover (well) up to say, episode 25 of the anime.

All of the previous ones(that I know of) have been made in Japan. This is the very time an American version will be made. I'm sure it will be quite unlike the Japanese films. For better or worse. |

There are only two movies and it tells one story that's different than manga. Live acton drama is different than the manga too. |

I will always remember that rumor about Gus Van Sant being the director.

Besides this possible American remake, there's been "Death Note", "Death Note: The Last Name", "L: Change the World", and the upcoming sequel film also titled "Death Note". Plus the two "Relight" anime compilation films if you want to count those. |

Yeah, apparently it wasn't just Doomsday for Superman this month, but for Warner Bros. as well.

I like Nat Wolff's casting as Light, but I still hope this flops. This and Ghost in the Shell. Any expedition into new territory ultimately for the sake of money is going nowhere good.

A live action Hollywood Death Note could be great if they have the right staff an Awesome director and a fantastic cast but what are the odds of that happening in this day and age? however I feel that Netflix is a better choice than Warner Bros.
Who knows if Netflix gets the Job done right with Death Note Amazon might respond with a live action Attack on Titan movie. |

^Or how about they just fund higher quality anime? That's what I'd rather see. Thankfully, with Amazon's massive contract with Noitamina and Fuji TV, that looks to be happening to some extent.
Anyway, I think this could be enjoyable, but I don't really see the point of anime/manga to live action adaptations in general. They are rarely successful in expanding the audience or making money, so it just seems like a money sink. |

I hope this dies before it happens. I had enough with Western companies doing shitty anime movies. This genre doesn't work in live action, hence it's called anime. Leave it alone and stop embarrassing yourselves.

$40-50 mil for a Death Note adaptation? That seems really high to me. The only reason I could see that kind of budget justified is if they want the CGI to make Ryuk look really freakin' impressive.
I'm still hopeful for this movie because Adam Wingard has yet to let me down. He's a fantastic director and I can't imagine he would be doing this if it was schlock. This is his chance to really break out. I don't see him throwing that away. |
