It already has passed 34 years since the last anime adaptation, but will it still be made by Toei Animation? I would assume it will given the popularity of the series in the past.

I'm surprised that they are doing something like this. I guess it had to happen eventually. I hope to see more old shows get new life breathed into them.

Doesn't Sayama himself own the rights these days? Are they being loaned out?

The question of the rights came up on the Wrestling Observer forums last year. From the list of copyrights on a Tiger Mask II pachinko machine, the rights to the character were "Ikki Kajiwara Tsuji Naoki / Kodansha". There were additional copyrights for the anime version, and Misawa's likeness as Tiger Mask II.
I would guess Sayama has similar rights to his likeness as Tiger Mask, but the character itself appears to be with the authors & Kodansha.

So, is it a new Tiger Mask anime, or is it basically a wrestling anime with Tiger Mask in it? You know, like Hulk Hogan's Rock n Wrestling.

Forgive me, but wouldn't Ashita no Joe be included under that banner of Kajiwara's life work?
Anyway, I'm excited for this. Although, I do wish we could get Tiger Mask and other Kajiwara-based anime English releases. Hopefully the success of The Karate Master/Karate Baka Ichidai will lead to further Kajiwara goodness...

I have a question. Will this version of "Tiger Mask" be shown in the United States? Most Americans have never heard of this before and I doubt it's going to be as well-known here are some other anime have been. Also,do they have an American wrestler in this series? Is he a native-born American or an immigrant to this country?
