The ending to false mask is bananas. I'll be pissed if they mess it up even further.

While I can understand the hate towards S2, I feel like you are really pushing it. It's nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be. Yes, i prefer S1, but S2 has its strong points as well. It would be boring to see S2 too similar to S1.
Besides, unfortunately once again like many other VN adaptions, this anime doesn't have enough episodes to show everything the VN has to offer. Biggest problem with turning VN/LN into anime; but the problem is to show what the series can offer and then complete it with all the extra stuff in the VN. And I think U2tawa is doing well.

They could have cut the stupid fanservice content and made OVAs out of them later (like people did with the original Utawa side stories in the past).

They would have at least 3-4 more episodes to dedicate to the story without any problems, with that. This adaptation made many wrong decisions.

Talking as one of the players myself, there was suppose to be some flashbacks segments within the narrative in between the first episodes presentation (that were omitted for good), while he was doing some jobs and stuff at the beggining. And that's just an example.

This is an 8-ish/10 VN being pretty much horribly presented with the weakest points of it being put in evidence (the fanservice moe part) in the anime. Let's hope the manga do things better.

Not to mention that Atui is supposed to be introduced early on not just as a girl looking for love, but she's also a blood lusting berserker princess who loves to fight. Anime didn't adapt that or explain why she's so strong.

And fun fact. After the lab scene I talked about earlier is when Haku was supposed to meet Aruruu and Kamyuu. And Oboro as well for a short scene. Kamyuu and Aruruu were much less annoying about Kuon and actually had the same intrique about Haku that Karura had. Kamyuu even mistakes him for Hakuoro.

And another thing that was omitted in the anime from the emperor's backstory. Humans have a genetic superiority to the demi-humans. It's in the demi-humans DNA to be naturally subservient to humans. That explains why Haku has this magic "charisma" Kuon talks about in episode 4. If any of you read One Piece, you can compare this charisma basically to what the passive effects of Color of the Conqueror are. You garner attention from this charisma and it's a magnet. It's not enough to erase their free will though. Karura didn't mistake Haku as Hakuoro because he is like him, but because he is human like Hakuoro. Well, Hakuoro's body is human anyway.

It's sad to see such an intelligent and epic saga being treated so poorly, especially when this VN is basically a huge and important build-up for something even bigger that will come later in the 3rd and last installment.

Let's just hope they don't ruin (any further) the best part of it (even though one of my favorite scenes was already completely skipped), that would be the last segments.

After catching up with the series and reading the comments, something I shouldn't have done given that I haven't played nor watch the original Utawarerumono, I must say I'm confused as fudge, and that there's so much information I need to get to enjoy more thr series as a whole. But U2warerumono is doing a really bad job at explaining all of its info dumping (now I'm pretty sure this ain't for newcomers) which ia sad because I'm really interested in the story and the worls. I suppose I'll have to watch the first show or play the games, because right now I'm lost. (And thanks to Jacob for doing a nice write up of episode 17, it really helped me to understand a little bit more).

Yeah... having played the first game, and having watched the first 11 episodes of the first anime, I'd suggest playing through the entire translated game on PC, watching the first series anime, then the OVAs for it, and then hoping for ATLUS to release the game the second series is based off of before watching the anime.

It's already too late for me (I feel I'm this far into the anime for U2, I might as well finish it), but I DEFINITELY intend on playing the games if they get released for PS3/PS4/Vita in English after hearing all of the stuff that was removed in the anime adaptation. *sigh*

Tottaly agree on the review of ep18 it was just wtf all of a sudden they go to war with Tuskuru and Haku just is like OK when he gets the mission i was sure he would denie it atleast abit harder etc.. and also you were abit wrong Yamato didn't have all the generals there few had missions somewhere else that monster dude was fighting against barbarians and Oshutoru was keeping safe stuff at home but on other hand we also dont know who all was at Tuskuru we only saw Karura at that bathhouse Inn so we know she wasnt part of it and we all know that she is pretty much the 2nd strongest or perhaps the strongest warrior now that Tuskuru has since Hakuoro isnt around anymore.
Anyway i hope they dont fcked up Tuskuru or the old characters because i simply loved them all and overall until now this new season deserves a max 6/10 or maybe 7 if they finish it better and the first season was an easy 9/10 for me it simply had allot more action and interesting story

well, it's been so long since we got a vn adaptation this bad, adn by this I odn't mean the level of it, but the way it was handled, it reminds me of how poorly love live treats it's plot, they had more than enough episodes to adapt the "good stuff" but instead they focused completely on the not so good one , the closest we get to this way of adapting is the vns that get adapted to hentai ovas and/or the minato soft stuff. it's sad that this makes me wish chiaki kon was in charge.

but I do expect more emotional honesty than this.

At this point we would be better off if there were any dishonest emotions being flung around. Haku's totally flabby personality seems to be ruining whatever this adaptation had to offer.

The review called Kuon Haku's girlfriend but until this episode (or maybe the one prior) I hadn't seen any evidence that he gives much of a damn how she feels. And he clearly has no interest in her -- when he saw her naked his reaction was about what it would have been if he had seen a brick wall.

ep 19,

I knew there had to be some other reason they sent Haku along. Oshutoru said there was no one else who could lead the supply convoy because all the other skilled people were busy yet one of the 8 pillar generals ended up going along with it anyway (the only reason he didn't escort it the entire way was because his daughter got rid of him).

I'm trying to figure out if Oshutoru knows that Haku is secretly capable of because he's certainly putting a lot on him to send him along and then just leave it to him to figure out how to help the army win.

And seriously, how is Dekoponpo still giving orders or maintaining his position as general at this point? He's been involved in breaking the law, disobeying orders and pretty much everyone knows he's incompetent. He's like the jar jar binks of this show

I am pretty sure it's just that Yamato doesn't give two craps how many of their people die. I mean, we basically saw that in the first war. So I guess why not? I don't know, hopefully he dies soon. Even his character design is awkward and looks out of place on the screen.

ep 20,

I need a scouter so I can see everyone's power levels in this anime. Previously Atui sunk a ship pretty much single handedly and was able to just wade through a ton of regular Soldiers and Yakutowaruto is probably stronger than her. The Kurou shows up and is quite literally able to stop their attacks with a single hand (bare handed).

And is Haku actually strong? because he blocked a full two handed attack by Kurou (the same guy who bare handedly blocked the ship sinking Atui).

I don't think it's so much Haku being strong as the fact that the guy was visibly shaken by seeing him with Hakuoro's fan all of the sudden like that.

Are we still getting reviews for this show, btw?
