It was fun to meet a Kerero Gunso mascot before the Animax Musix 2014 concert in Yokohama arena. The character was quite popular with people there.

I really enjoyed the Sgt. Frog english dub, it's a shame that it never took off in the states.

I actually went to a panel at a convention with Todd Haberkorn, the voice of Keroro. Someone asked why they stopped dubbing Sgt Frog. Todd asked how many people had seen it. Probably 30 or so people raised their hand. Then he asked how many BOUGHT it. All but like 2 people put their hands down. "And THAT is why we haven't finished Sgt Frog"

When I went to Florida Supercon, FUNimation was completely out of Sgt. Frog season 1. OH, NOW YOU PEOPLE START BUYING!!! щ(ಠ益ಠщ) |

That is weird. I always thought Sgt. Frog pretty much made Todd Haberkon's career. It was practically the first show I heard him voice other than Ouran High. After that, his acting resume just seemed to explode. Really thought Sgt. Frog was his big launch board.
Never saw D.Gray-man so don't bother pointing that out. |

Sadly people can be fans all they want. However, if they don't financially support the release effort in the US, fans are screwed over. And it really sucks for everyone involved. x.x |

Sucks even more for the people who actually supported a release only to find out it will never be completed. Honestly, even if FUNimation only released the series subbed after 78 on DVD, I would have been content. |

Sealab 2021 began as a heavily re-cut version of Sealab 2020, and as the show went on, they started adding in more original art. That memorable scene of Quinn (I think that was his name; it's been so long since I've seen it) opening up his torso to show he's a machine, for instance, was not in the original Hanna-Barbera series.
An actor can get his or her big break from something not-so-famous or not-so-liked if that actor's performance catches a producer's attention. Yuri Lowenthal became a big name in voice acting via Rave Master. Same goes for non-actors too. James Cameron got his cred on Piranha 2 and found himself directing The Terminator. |

It strikes me that trying to import an adult-orientated, pop culture referencing, comedy cartoon into an American market that already produces plenty of the things was a bit of a fool's errand.

Interesting that a number of Haberkorns earlier work, mostly the ones he played a main, got cancelled; xxxHolic, D. Gray-man, Hell Girl and Sgt. Frog. |

Kinda wish they at least got to the end of season 2, that would at least have been a solid end. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

Sgt. Frog was both the first anime and manga series that I had ever purchased, so it sucked at the time that the series wasn't doing well and I could only get so many dvds due to being unable to rely on a stable allowance.
At this point I mostly focus on getting select manga volumes (though collecting manga is a lot harder than collecting anime dvds, even if they are mostly cheaper.) |

Sgt. Frog failed, due to been completely butchered by Funimation. Sgt. Frog is a series for children, and Funimation's poor attempt to add appeal to teens and adults completely failed. The original Sgt. Frog is a fun and unique series for children, that could have done well, if given the chance.
I don't see how the pop culture references are a problem at all, many western cartoon series have similar references, which children wouldn't know at the time, but they still enjoy the series. I'm not surprised the DVD sales were poor, most fans would have been turned off by the changes. Every single episode on the DVD reminds you of those changes, due to the DVD menus, title cards and next episode previews only providing the horrid English titles.
