Yup, the first preview episode aired today and was alright, catchy main theme song with some idol action and transformation. It's like they said, "it's showtime!"
Not too shabby so far, I wonder it will be a 2-cour.

Oh I thought this was going to air in winter. Welp, might as well take advantage of this and try to catch up with the franchise. Still have to watch Macross 7 and Frontier.

Damn, I was really hoping Yoko Kanno would be doing the music again. Not that that will keep from watching this series. I'm still super stoked about it.

The composers for Delta are good at least so I have no complaints. Kawamori wanted to make Frontier extra special since it was the Macross 25th anniversary so he recruited Kanno.

Not really since every Macross series is a stand alone story. However I'd highly recommend you watch the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross TV series or at least the Do You Remember Love movie which is its retelling to give you a general idea of the universe's history.

They distributed ciphers for the preview episode! That is so cool. Reminds me of DOG DAYS. The booklet for the final volume came with a cipher to the language they speak in Flonyard. I used it to translate all of the glyphs on the individual Blu ray cases I wish we had events like this Macross one (for obvious reasons we can't with this title) done internationally. Having an option to participate in an event for an upcoming anime (in person/online) would really get my attention.

I'm a huge macross fan, I love all macross series, even macross 7. But for some reason this latest instalment does not look very appealing to me. I actually hopped that they will finally make a continuation of original 1982 story about Hikaru, Lisa and Minmay. But we a getting a new story with, so far, terrible 3D and without Yoko Kano. And setting with resembles cross b/n Love Live and Uta no Prince-sama.
But I hope that I'm wrong and the series will actually be great

Macross was, I believe(?), the first anime to use 2D idols. So im not sure what you're trying to say.

It's not bad but seeing magical idols in the middle of battle and not in a variable fighter did make me wonder WTF I was watching but it got way better towards the end with a real battle besides I got to see Makina and she's the cutest thing in the group. Please, please have these idols actually battle and not be always be support, you know like AKB0048.
