Okay, first off: Great Trailer! And thanks for telling the whole story: "I only swim freestyle" -> "I want to swim a relay with this team". Characters development complete in 3 minutes! (it's a joke though).
Anyway, I don't know if this was discussed elsewhere, but wont this movie create plotholes in the tv anime series? Why were all these new fellows never mentioned in high school? And how is this movie going to end in order to answer it?
Will it be "they all went to high schools with already existing swim clubs, and we coincidentally never saw them at competitions", since "we never reached far enough in the competition to meet them", "there was an argument and an unanimous decision to never talk or contact each other again" or just "and then they died - the end"?

From what i've heard this is based on the original novel whereas the tv series takes place after the novel. Basically making anime originals on a novel then adapting

Good question. Trust me, as someone who has read both High Speed novels, I couldn't help but wonder whatever happened to the characters introduced in High Speed 2.
The connection between the first light novel High Speed and the anime first season (which was inspired by the first book) was clear enough with the boys forming a relay team in elementary and Rin leaving for Australia thereafter (shown during the flashbacks in the anime so this isn't a spoiler ) then continued years later in the anime where they all reunite.
High Speed 2 came out a year after season 1 of the anime and has introduced new characters that I (and I'm sure some others who have read the book as well) was hoping would at least be mentioned in the season 2 anime. Only Kisumi apparently made an appearance but even in the light novel, nothing was mentioned about what happened to Asahi and the Kirishima brothers and Nao. The book ended after the summer tournament.
Now based on the flashback on the first season of the anime, Haru quit the swim club (and competitive swimming) during his first year in middle school, after his not-so-pleasant encounter with Rin some time during winter (not in the book anymore but was mentioned in the anime S1). I believe it was mentioned that when Haru did leave the club, he cut ties with everyone except Makoto (I don't know how he managed to do that when he was in the same class as Ikuya and Asahi). The movie, in case you didn't know, is based on (or more like inspired by because I've heard the movie didn't exactly follow the story in the light novel) the second book, High Speed 2.

I'm not a big fan of this series (too much fanservice for my taste), but this movie was good. I don't think it creates any plotholes. The new guys are efficiently introduced and the pace is good.
