Even if it was, isn't it really weird that they're trademarking names in Europe before anywhere else?

I wouldn't say completely. Bamco has a really good EU division from what I know.

Zestiria wasn't bad although I can't see how a sequel would work what with the whole giant time skip and Sorey being in a coma for a certain period of time unlike Xillia Zestiria told it's story and ended it in a satisfying manor

Tales of Zestiria was my first Tales game and it was pretty good to me. Only flaw was the camera when battling..

To those who have played multiple Tales of games, Zestiria was bad in a lot of aspects. The lack of artes was a huge one for me. Spending the entire game only using 2-3 artes because your character only learns like a total of 10 was disappointing, fusions were absolutely broken and completely destroyed any opportunity at 4 player co-op, skill system was overly complex to the point not many people wanted to learn it, and many other issues including the mentioned real location camera that absolutely did not work as intended.
It wasn't a horrible game, but it was one of the worst Tales of games to come out in a while.

A sequel or updated re-release/director's cut of Zestiria? That's a surprise, given the game's reception and the controversy regarding it. I expected Bamco to just move past the game as quickly as possible.
I assume Tales of Rays might be a spinoff or portable game given we've barely gotten any info about Berseria pas the initial announcement.

It saddens me that this game received such mixed reviews. I personally loved it, although I acknowledge it has flaws (the camera, the weapons skill system...) However, I think its biggest flaws have to do with gameplay (fixable) and lack of character development/vagueness (very fixable with more details)
I'm really excited to have the creators take another crack at it. Zestiria has a great cast of characters and world to play in, not to mention there are so many loose ends to fill.
I see this as an opportunity to right the wrongs (please, please fix that darn weapon skill system, that really was awful) and throw in some more Alisha in there. A sequel could end up being really good. I don't think fans disliked the characters, and that's the heart of any game.

Fun fact: you do not represent the entire Tales Of community.
I've played almost all the games, and I liked Zestiria fine. And if you spend any time on any of the countless message boards with Tales Of fans, you'll rapidly discover that a great many people *also* liked Zestiria just fine.
There is a portion of the fanbase that really ****ing loves Tales Of gameplay. But that's only a portion. Me? I'm one of the fans who thinks the gameplay in *all* of the games is mediocre at best, so the little changes and lack of artes and crap like that? Doesn't bother me at all.

You're right, I don't, and I never claimed to. I'm merely stating my personal opinion and what I've seen mimicked on various boards across the internet. The game was widely received as a less than stellar game.

That's great you liked it, not everyone did. If you spend any amount of time on the countless message boards with Tales fans, you'll find not everyone liked Tales of Zestiria just fine. It's funny how opinions work, eh?

I like it, too! and A LOT.
Yeah, no so many many artes... but the entire game with 2-3? Really? lol
Uh-huh, the camera, was is that bad?... well, was bad... but THAT bad? Really? another lol!
Is it necesary to even name Alisha-sama?
Well, and why don't put it like "many people like it, of course not everybody for X reason"
That's funny too, how the hate works.
I hope the new entries please you.

I'm going through my 2nd playthrough of ToZ, and the camera is indeed pretty annoying -- basically, you need to stay away from walls or you'll regret it. I have found that by adjusting the camera angle and zoom you can *mitigate* the problem with the camera, but even that doesn't entirely fix it.
And yes, there are questions about the ToZ world that weren't answered -- quite a few, actually. So, while the immediate story in ToZ was completed -- the story of how Sorey dealt with the current Lord of Calamity -- deeper mysteries remain, enough for another game if they want, IMO.
ToZ was certainly flawed -- I didn't like how equipment was how you really become more powerful as opposed to level, for example -- but overall I've enjoyed it. I still like Graces best for combat and Xillia 1 for storyline (I admit to having only played these later "Tales of" games). But ToZ was worth the price I paid for it, and overall it was reasonably entertaining, so I'm not disappointed I bought it.

Yes, the entire game with 2-3 artes. I main Edna, my 2 friends main Sorey and Rose. Air Pressure, Final Embrace, Healing Circle. Literally no reason to use anything but those when you're in the back casting.
Yes the camera was that bad, there's nothing to lol about it. You get close to a wall? Camera issues. Do you know how often I had to try and fight enemies off screen due to camera problems? A lot. Do you know how often we had overly difficult battles due to losing half our battle field to a rock, tree, wall, cliff, or other scenery? It was a terrible mechanic and I sincerely hope they do away with it or vastly improve it.
I also hope the new entries please me.
Literally the entire game revolved around fusion, it became absolutely necessary to survive and deal damage in any significant portions. It made 4 player co-op worthless, made the individual characters artes worthless.

Not just fusion, but you also need to learn how to utilize the group and elemental unions; used well, they help a lot. Used poorly, and your gear will have a hard time keeping up with what the enemy can dish out.
