I just watched the first and only episode of this show I have ever seen at ADV's site and all I have to say is one word, wow. This show's animation is beautiful beyond words. It definitely showcases KyotoAni's excellent craftsmanship and overall talent as an animation studio. As I've stated before, I've only seen this one episode, so as far as I'm concerned, the story is pretty much up in the air at this point for me (pun not intended). I think I'm going to add this to my existing preorders at Right Stuf.

It's a good show.
And as I've found out from a previous thread, it's a bit like sushi...to some it's their favorite thing to eat and to others it's not even food

Thanks for the recommendation. I agree. There are many shows that polarize fans. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, Kanon, FLCL, Tenshi ni Narumon!, ect. It all pretty much boils down to personal taste.

I watched it on ADV already. It is indeed beautiful. I thought the dub acting was well done too. This is coming from someone who hasn't seen the original Japanese though. I MIGHT just give this show a buy.

I watched it, and noticed the backgrounds had a whole lot of detail put into them, but that didn't make for an interesting plot. Maybe it was the dub, which was not too great, but the story wasn't very interesting...
And I don't like the "moe" character designs...
I hardly ever buy anime, and this is probably another I won't be buying.

Yes, the character designs may be "moe" like you say, but that's because this anime is based off of a pc hentai game, I believe. "Moe" character designs or no, I still think it's worth a try. I personally wouldn't hold this show in contempt because of that.

its amazing attetion to detail serious as you can tell alot of effort was put into the backgrounds and chracter animations, as for the dub i am not entirely dissappointed in it some are right on as to what i think the chracter would sound like and a couple werent what i would have expected, but you either like the genre or not, will most doubtly figure if people buy it or not.

Not buying this. Story did not progress well even for 13 episodes.

Yeah, I know it's based on a visual novel (that apparently only contains minimal eroge material), and that's where the moe designs come from, but I simply don't like moe. Just like some really old anime or anime with bad character designs, if I don't like some part of the art or animation, it's hard to watch it.
As for giving it a try, I already did by watching the first episode. I don't have the funds to go around buying everything I might want to just try out, so this one is a series that I won't be watching, or at least not in the forseeable future.

Have you actually seen the whole series already?

This was my first experience with the show. I think that ADV's dub was decently handled, though there are a lot of the girl voices at which dubs so often falter. The translation rarely sounded awkward, and the delivery was not overly stilted.
I'll agree with some of the others about the character designs; Moe is not my thing. On the other hand, I thought that this worked pretty well for a first episode, and although very obviously structured, I was sufficiently interested.
The animation was fluid and detailed, but some of the storyboarding seemed lackluster; many shots looked lifted directly from the original visual novel, or at least directly influenced by that style. In terms of direction, this is not usually overly creative. The music was nice, and I wouldn't mind having the single for that ending song. The BGM sounded like it came from a video game. That's not meant as an insult, but it didn't sound like a typical anime score for the most part.
I think I'll rent the series next summer to see what this show's fans (Airheads?) keep talking about.

Theres a few things that can I think can be said of Air:
1. The movie is done by the legendary Toei Animation Studio (whom also did the first Kanon series as well as new Clannad movie).
2. It's based off of a popular renai game (as are the other aforementioned series that are all from the same company).
3. The ultimate one: Like Fate/Stay Night and Rumbling Hearts, this is a licensed anime based off of a porn game (more technically, a H game or eroge).

I didn't know that you're a master of the obvious.

So legendary that fans called Air movie a "black history" i.e. something considered non-canon and should be forgotten, stopped asking licensees to acquire Kanon once the 2006 remake became available, and laughed at the decision to produce a Clannad movie as they never learned from mistakes.

I thought many fans held the Air movie in higher regard than the series due to certain plotline aspects present in the movie that were absent in the series?

Exactly. I love making my own sushi, but I would never put a marshmellow in the middle and that's what this title is to me.
