That would be surprising, Asterisk had the same starting episode as Rakudai, any hopes for these two stories to be any different from each other would be low.

Other than the fact there's different people writing them?

there's a thuggish fellow student who keeps pestering Julis for a duel rematch; he initially seems like he might be involved in sneak attacks on Julis, but episode 3 suggests that such actions would be out-of-character for him. (A thug he may be, but he prefers a straight-up fight.)

Well there are 3 attackers and the thug dude had 2 friends. Also one of the attackers seems to use an axe which looks very similar to the thug dude's axe. Maybe it's a bit too obvious.

Overall, The Asterisk War is currently beating Chivalry by a small margin, but it's still early.

This latest Chivalry's episode bumped up the show for me a lot while this latest episode of Asterisk was fairly meh. So for me Chivalry is beating Asterisk by a small margin. While Chivalry has the annoying little sister, I can't say I'm exactly fond of the president in Asterisk either.

I'd say Asterisk and Chivalry are about even. But really I don't care about how similar they are, I'm just happy to see more works that have leads that actually get along.

I'd like to watch Chivalry too, so I can compare it with Asterisk, but that anime is on Hulu, and those are jerks and don't let me watch it. So I'm Team Asterisk.

To me, the anime is OK so far. I laugh at the fan service moments, but not because they're funny, but because they're dumb! As I've said before, I'd have loved to be like Ayato during my highschool years, with a busty president that lets me touch her because why not and a passive aggressive girl that wants me to take my clothes off (to fix them, of course).

Fortunately, that scene where Ayato and Julis were talking about her childhood wasn't ruined by another tsundere attack. It's really good that she gets some development, so that way I can care about her.

I wouldn't worry about Ayato. I'm pretty sure he'lll get his development at some point (hopefully sooner rather than later). After all, the series has just started and it will be a two cour anime.

So yeah, I hope we get more battles for thr next episode and a little more of Ayato and Julis chatting about their lives.

I confess that I've mostly been watching Asterisk for its high production values and Rasmus Faber music. Especially the music. The ED song is so classy, it's such an unexpected choice!! Smile

A-1's taking the animation work very seriously for this, I hear. They've a big budget to work with, plus being very faithful to the source material so far.

Episode #2's negative compatibility rate, and how all those present were apparently on a coffee break, made me shake my head in disbelief. That was one obvious, shoe-horned [MC is really a badass] moment, and it felt like a cheap attempt to make MC-kun appear awesome to the audience as fast as possible. It just made me sigh, instead.

Currently, one of show's very few good points is the technical side, with the art style and animation deserving being complemented on, but that's about it.

Although Student Council Babe does seem to be interested in Ayato for reasons, I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out she had some connection to that orphanarium. She seems to have some kind of Mrs. Robinson vibe going, which is weird for her age, and I don't think her concern for Julis is feigned, or just a way into Ayato's pants. So I think she has a lot more behind the scenes knowledge than it seems like she should have. Definitely more to her than meets the eye.

For those keeping score, after 3 laps, this is edging out Rakudai by a boob.

What an ingenious metric for series like these.

Yes, I had to chuckle at that, too.

Technically, though, the female lead in Chivalry is distinctly bustier than the female lead in this one, so I'm not sure that would be quite an accurate metaphor. Wink

It's perfectly accurate. Races aren't won by a nose because the horse's nose was longer. That's just the part that crosses the line first. Razz
