Bakuman will be showing at the Japan Film Festival across Australia, October 21 to November 4 (very limited number of screenings at each venue):

Saw it last weekend, and was pretty pleased overall. They didn't cover the whole series (nor should they have attempted to in a two-hour film) so there's room for sequels if they want to go that route.
Some things are different and some characters are missing, but there's only so much you can fit in a movie like this; of the stuff that's in it, they did get an awful lot right. My biggest issue with it was that Niizuma wasn't quite himself; he was more creepy than funny, kinda like he wandered in from Death Note or something. Hattori was also lower-key and made less of an impression, but this is less noticeable since he was never over-the-top like Niizuma to begin with. The other manga artists were pretty well done; Fukuda in particular being spot-on. |
