Two of my sons approached me about possibly getting this series, I responded that if they wanted to watch the shows we have access to the streams but they would have to pay for the releases out of their own money. I've never felt that I should say no to them about buying any Anime - or other videos for that matter - and up to now I never have.

As much as I absolutely loved this series and would like to have it on my own shelves, 70 dollars for 4 episodes is ridiculous. 70 dollars for the complete series and some of the bonuses? Sure. I shelled out 107 for the nice Beyond the Boundary set, so I'd gladly do the same for magical boys. Just going to wait it out and hope in the future some complete set is released...

Well, whatever you decide is up to you or your sons, and if they are willing to spend a premium and rather instead watch it streaming as its available on CR. (Note: The home video release is also sub only, so...)
Yeah, wish it would be, but IIRC, PonyCan US has yet to bring any of their catalog into a complete series set. I mean, yes, Aniplex has done it for a couple of their titles (despite how much they go for), but yeah, for now, this is the norm just bringing their titles at a quick pace for a premium in standardized volume sets. |

I talked with the people at Pony Canyon's booth at a convention recently, and they said something to the effect that they were considering doing some kind of standard release in the future. It made me happy to hear that they were listening to the many complaints and comments about how people wanted a less expensive option for their products. I'd really love to purchase their shows, but I just don't need all the extras. It's nice that they make the set for the people who do like that sort of stuff, but I'd much rather buy the complete series in standard-sized cases for a more reasonable price. Hopefully they were telling the truth. |

That would be good news.
Yes, I want to emphasize that I'm happy that the people that really want the singles releases with all the bells & whistles can have them. In no way do I want to see this become a Zero Sum game. I just want to be able to own the complete series released in standard North American packaging at a North American market equivalent price. Perfectly willing to wait a reasonable period of time (6 months - 9 months after the CE Releases) for that type of release. Mark Gosdin |

Yeah, I can't see a reason why they can't coexist.
(Heck don't you think that'd possibly increase sales? Collectors get what they want. So does everyone else) Because there's no way in hell i'm paying these prices. What I am really sad about is Sunrise. The exact same LE EP 1 of Gundam The Origin on Blu-Ray with the same untranslated extras costs about HALF as much on Amazon Japan as it does here on Amazon or through RightStuf. I can only imagine what would've happened if they allowed TRS to release Turn-A on BD at the same time as on DVD. The Japanese BD sets are still going for 25,000 yen. EACH. Heck, even the Gundam Unicorn blu-rays are way cheaper on Amazon Japan. ~27-45$. Here they range from 50-100$ It seems the only reason we are getting 0079 for less than 100$ is because it's been out for several years already in Japan. (Though for some reason the Premium BD set is still going for 44,000 yen. The Movie set 15,000. Insane) |

The Japanese entertainment market is it's own beast, so I don't expect it to have pricing that in any form resembles what we are used to here in North America.
A lot of our - and their - problems, however, appear to have cropped up because the people that assigned Blu-Ray territories put the US and Japan in the same region. It's made hash of things because the Japanese are as frugal as everyone else and will buy cheap if they can get it. Mark Gosdin |

and sad for all the ladies collecting out there.
Also good to hear that PonyCan US may be reconsidering their lame @#$ "take it or leave it edition" strategy for R1. Would it kill 'em to have a little faith in ALL of the fans that want to own their releases? No it's not a fair comparison here, but just saying, even Japan has priced down releases and different price tiers for various releases and re-releases. I did go for Denki and Yuki. And no, not at all impressed by the Plastic Over sized Over Priced excuse for a collector's edition, but that's it. At least until this "future" comes to past. As of now I have Zero desire to even consider supporting any of their other R1 releases. |
