This was always true in my mind lmao. Why would the game be called "Super Mario Brothers"?

Shigeru just contridicted himself, because a few years back he said Mario and Luigi didn't have last names.
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/09/shigeru_miyamoto_mario_and_luigi_dont_have_last_names However, since he created Mario Bros, he can change his mind anytime he wants. |

Not sure as to why Mario and Luigi's last names aren't shown that much.

Was coming to comment just that. Just like the koopalings mot being Bowser's children anymore, it's just stuff he pulls off in the spot. Not like the Mario universe needs to be consistent anyways. |

Same with the Zelda 'timeline' too. It's too convoluted to be taken seriously, it's just for fun. I mean it's got three branching timelines (if not more with new games incoming), so it's obviously made after the fact due to fans wanting more details that were never firmly decided on in the first place. Nothing wrong with this stuff, but it's less a confirmation and more of a retcon IMO. |

Mario Mario and Luigi Mario names is one of the (few) good ideas of that movie, so I'm fine with that.

I'm a bit puzzled by this since I always thought Mario and Luigi never had a last name...
But, oh well...I doubt most people would lose sleep over this... |

And this 'revelation' is the only useful thing about that movie.

I remember thinking that movie was alright. I was a kid at the time.
You have to at least grant that turning the whimsical fantasy of the Mario games into a coherent movie required the use of some creative license. |

Like was said earlier already, the Mario "brothers" only makes sense if their last name is Mario.
You don't call the Jackson's "The Maureen Siblings". |

I remember seeing other personal appearances of the Nintendo character back in the day (an ice show, for one... ) that confirmed that Sr. Mario, in corporate canon, was indeed Mario Mario.
There are many, many, many things the Bob Hoskins movie pulled out of its.........hat, but the name is not one of them. Now, as for Koopa being Dennis Hopper with hair gel, that's another matter. |

Welp, I knew about that, but confused.
Mario games aren't consistent, but that doesn't matter. |

Interesting, but I guess it does make sense. The title of the series says it all and Miyamoto is pretty much George Lucas for the Mario series, except Miyamoto doesn't go back and change iconic details or scenes, which is good.
