I am a woman of many talents.
Although to be fair, the ornithologist is actually my uncle. |

I am not a sports fan at all, but I can honestly say this was my favorite anime of 2014.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of sports, and I couldn't care less about volleyball, but damn is Haikyuu!! great. I actually want these blu rays and I'm hyped for the next season.

Say what?! Oikawa is the best character in the entire show, hands down! And there are a lot of good character in this show. Seriously, i even like the main team here and i usually feel indifferent at best about he main team in sports anime because it usually features the least interesting characters. |

Agreed, how is a focus on Oikawa a bad thing? He's my fave character along with Nishinoya and he's a unique and very complex "villain" (although I hesitate to speak of villains in this anime), and one I can relate to very easily. There is no such thing as too much Oikawa. |

I think that's because Hinata is a middle blocker, which is a position where being taller gives you more of an advantage. Don't really need to be tall for the libero position since you can't block or attack when the ball's above the net. |

I was happy to see mention of the intercuts of the two games. That just knocked my socks off. So beautifully executed, it was the highlight of the second half for me. Among many wonderful highlights.
Gods, I love this series. Never thought I'd give a masterpiece rating to a sports anime, but here we are. Can't wait for the next season. |

I echo a lot of other sentiments here. I never would have thought I'd get so wound up in a sports anime, but the characters are really the driving force. Everybody has their own personality and this second half of the first season really makes you care about the cast and their game. I'm so looking forward to the second season! It should be great as I've been reading the manga, but I'm real curious to see where the anime winds things up this time around.
I was going to say the same thing. "The Little Guy" thing is more in reference to their player positions than their actual heights. |

You piqued my curiosity, so I took a look-see. Apparently it depends on what part of their flight you're depicting. When they're at cruising speed and altitude, they usually tuck their feet, but on take-off, ascent, and landing their feet dangle like counterweights to stabilize their efforts or prepare for touch-down. Iirc, most of the shots we see of crows in the series are of them taking off when harassing or disturbed by the cats, so their feet should be dangly. But we also get some brief shots in the first half's ED, where they're shown both ways. The crow flying along with Hinata while he's running alone is landing gear up (as are the flock seen at the very end at cruising altitude), while it drops talons-to-the-ready when flying after the team, as if preparing for battle. I can't recall other specific scenes to look for, but if you have a favorite, point me at it and I'll be happy to look it up. If there are any crows riding thermals with feet down, I'd agree that's probably wrong unless they're enjoying the wind through their toes. |

Just finished to binge watch the season. I fairly enjoyed it.
It's very, very formulaic but the light touches of humour, the animation, the characters keep Haikyuu!! on the better end of the sports anime offer. The first episode is a real hook. That spike at the end of the game and the way it was animated kept me going (and Asahi's spike, and Oikawa's serve). It's just a shame they didn't used this style in the second half of the show. The pseudo technical and sport talks weren't too much over the top. In most anime, this BS just take me out of the show. My suspension of disbelief can only go so far. I'm looking at you Kuroko or almost all base ball anime. Like the reviewer, I was disappointed by the music. Or the lack thereof. I believe this season could have "soared to higher heights" ( ) given a more exciting soundtrack. Opening and endings are forgetable. I'll be waiting for the second season. |

Another thing I realized while watching something else is that it not only doesn't overdo the sports jargon (although in all fairness, that did lead to my libero/front blocker confusion), but it doesn't narrate the games in a play-by-play. That annoys me in any battle or game; Haikyu has mastered showing without too much telling. |

Digging into the BD before the new season starts. I've noticed a few small differences in the subtitles (and I don't recall ever seeing different fonts in the on-screen text subs before, but maybe I just noticed this time). But they kind of went overboard (to the point of being annoying) in subbing the school names on everybody's uniforms. Just because it's there several times a scene, doesn't mean you need to translate it every single time, unless it actually has changed for some unexpected reason.
But the color looks sooo much better on my tv than on my computer. This is one series I wish had a dub even though the Japanese is just awesome, because the characters' facial expressions and body language is amazing, but I can't soak it up because I'm reading subs. Still love it to death. |
