Hopefully you read this text before someone reply saying 'The manga normally get made before the anime'

So over the Summer Holidays I watched 18 Seasons of anime in total (want to wait until a free hour before trying to add them to a list) but I have yet to read a single manga, though I can only read English or translated ones. But there does always come the point when you finish a season of a show and you say, should I wait for a new season or read the manga. Or maybe, as I have, you fall across a show that via recommendations has a good anime and manga.

So, to sum it up, do you watch the anime first and manga after, or read the manga then follow-up with the anime?

I usually watch the anime first, as most of the time the manga extends beyond the anime, so by reading second I feel I can get the complete ending after the anime. If I read the manga first, I've found I just get disappointed by the anime's (lack of) ending. This way, I can enjoy them both.

I do not have a rule about what comes first. It is just a matter of convenience.

Lately I have often been reading the manga first, but that is just because it is easier for me to read the newer manga than it is to watch the newer anime (streaming video is not practical for me).
But if I get a chance to watch an anime first I will definitely not put it off until I can read the manga.

Essentially I really do not care.

While I'm always on the lookout for new manga/light novels to read, my first exposure to something is usually the anime. Typically I won't check out the source material until after the anime is done so I can enjoy the adaptation on its own merits without constantly comparing it to the source. If I end up really liking the anime I'll certainly check out the source material to continue the story.

In the case of manga adapted works there are often exceptions. Sometimes if I'm really into a show and an episode ends on a cliff hanger I'll look at the manga to see what happens next rather than wait a week. As a result there are some titles whose manga I've jumped into at random spots and have yet to read it from start to finish.

Yeah, I mostly find it easier to fall upon a new anime than to find its manga translated. I currently have Nagaserete bookmarked to read but it took so long to find where the anime ended in terms of chapters (one negative about watching then reading.. I was also going to read Yamada and 7 Witches and a few others but with them coming out so recently I want time to settle in-case a season 2 or 3 etc is announced.

This is essentially my opinion. I've learned to be accepting of the fact often anime series have no real ending. Leaving the door open for more seasons as the manga or LN advances. So I don't mind that per se, but I do like going into an anime with as little preconceived notions as possible. Typically if it's and older series or a series that is done I watch it first, then read the manga/LN/VN if there are any. It's why I often watch shows 1 or 2 seasons after they initially aired. Gives me time to wait and see if more is going to be made or not. In the case of the newer, or currently airing, shows I do watch I will watch what is out, then read the manga up to the same point in the story, and then stop. That way I don't get ahead of myself.
