So, with that Naruto marathon on YTV, that means the Canadians are ahead of us in the airings by four episodes. Since episode 100 doesn't air here until Sunday at 9:30.

You're right! We should do something about the "Naruto Gap". I call for sanctions!!! I'm still not over the fact that AZN is being removed from my cable lineup at the end of the month (thanks comcast)-; But they are presenting two animes this week in both dub and subtitled; Kakurenbo: Hide and Seek (English Dubbed) Thursday, August 16, 2007 | 7:00 PM EST (R 8/17 12:00 AM) Kakurenbo: Hide and Seek (English Subtitles) Thursday, August 16, 2007 | 7:30 PM EST (R 8/17 12:30 AM) Negadon: Monster from Mars (English Dubbed) Thursday, August 16, 2007 | 8:00 PM EST (R 8/17 1:00 AM) Negadon: Monster from Mars (English Subtitles) Thursday, August 16, 2007 | 8:30 PM EST (R 8/17 1:30 AM) They also have a bunch of making-of, trailers, and interviews (from the DVD?) for both on their website through the media player section. |

Looking at the line up in your article, as well as our own TV listings, and it's blazingly clear that for some unknown reason, the television corporations still make the mistake of anime=cartoon=kids' stuff. Admittedly, there are some notable exceptions like Lain, Texnolyze, etc,in the listings (and what a surprise to see a classic like Ayakashi there), but for the most part it's still the usual shounen hack-and-slash mindless fun. (Watch the Naruto fanboys take exception to that ;ast comment). At least you have more variety - our programming execs can't seem to move beyond rotating Pokemon, Dragonball and Yu Gi Oh... probably the 3 best examples of why the saying, "All anime is good" is a complete lie.
One wonders if they will ever cotton on to the fact that there is as much anime geared towards older viewers (and trust me, I fall very much into the 'older' category) as there is for youngsters and actually show something like Gunslinger Girl, Now & Then, or even somehing slightly different (and alas, still unlicensed) like YKK, Hataraki Man, Shinigami no Ballad). The list is endless, i guess, and dependent on personal taste. I think that as long as they continue to believe in the erroneous equation mentioned above, anime will continue to remain a sub-culture... which might not be a bad thing... but that's a topic for another day. |

He missed mentioning airings of Akira, Mirage of Blaze, Gokusen, and Samurai Deeper Kyo. With the listings from AZN he didn't mention, I wonder if there's anything else he didn't mention . . . .

I was so excited all day to see Naruto tonight, but then I turned it on and saw the crappy OVA... At least Bleach and Blood+ are still here this week.
And we only get one new episode after that airing of the previous 99? That's weak... But then again, these episodes are fillers? I thought the fillers didn't start until after episode 135 or something. So there's another section of fillers before then? Exactly what episodes numbers are those? |

Oh, no no no. That isn't the erroneous equation TV corporations use. This is the erroneous equation TV corporations use. Let A represent anime, S represent shonen, C represent children, M be cliche American animation demographic, R be ratings (represented by ). ' , ' C= 75%(M) [Parents]= 25%(M) C>P= R>R P + (coherence + adult x programming)= R C + (c + a(p)) = R C + (violence) = R P(C +V)= R + M(0) C+S(CA)= R + P:rS ' , ' When SA =P(p), R=:S , ' , When SA>P(p), R= Q. E. D. They have real mathematicians do this stuff, you know.
Careful. You never know when The Canadians might be listening in on us. Don't want Them to know that They are winning- it might give Them ideas. |

Mmmmm, yet another week in which simply skipping shows on channels not carried by Comcast (be glad you even had AZN to lose) requires less than 2 minutes to get through The Click.
.... Blame Canada |

You're right! I forgot to mention the surprise premiere of Sailor Moon Sailor Stars on NBC this Friday! Or the special marathon of Berserk this Tuesday on Bravo! Or HBO's presentation of Urotsukidoji, with an introduction by Pauline Kael! A LESS SNARKY RESPONSE: I'm sorry if The Click isn't 100 percent perfect every week; I do try, really. But sometimes, time slips out of my grasp and certain things get forgotten about. But really, you pretty much nailed everything I forgot this week up there. And those shows have aired maybe fifteen times in the past month alone? |

Well, someone's listened to Weird Al, I see. Yep, time for the preemptive strike! Someone's gotta find out why G4 thinks the Canadians are so special they get the good version of their network, which still carries Anime Unleased. Meanwhile, we get Code Monkeys. NOT a fair trade. |

Actually, I'm pretty sure Gunslinger Girl did air on IFC I think it was. Not exactly a major cable channel, but still some of these shows are at least being given a chance. Something like that is probably going to have to start small with a network that is willing to take some risks. If it proves successful, then the bigger networks will take notice. For example, Sci Fi channel has started airing Noein, which I have not seen all of, but it certainly doesn't seem like the typical shounen fare. Cartoon Network has aired Paranoia Agent, albeit in a late time slot, but it's not a show oriented towards the youngster crowd. I'm not sure where you are -- it sounds like outside of the US from your comments -- but it seems that in the last several years a lot of good anime has been finding its way on to TV here in the States at least. If people continue to watch these shows, we'll probably keep seeing more and eventually on networks a little bit more accessible than IFC or AZN. |

I might have skipped the YTV section but I haven't seen any on the list this week. YTV has released their anime schedule on Friday nights here |

You're not going to see any other anime this week on YTV this week then Naruto, because of the Marathon. Then YTV will broadcast a movie in Bionix, therefore, pretty much eliminating the anime premieres.

The reason why that television in America/Canada is like that is because they want to make a profit. It's called commercial television for a reason. If Canada or the US implemented public service broadcasting in all broadcasting systems (similar to what Britain did to broadcast television and radio before Thatcher wrecked it with "light-touch" regulation), things would change a bit. |

YTV has a viewer discretion disclaimer on before the show starts and after each commerical break stating that the show is 'intended for an older youth audience'. There are tonnes of those on the airwaves here in Canada.
I think after midnight they might show repeats of Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam Seed Destiny and Bleach. |
