So glad to finally have them acknowledge that they want to remake Resident Evil 2. It was the first Resident Evil game I owned, and several years ago I replayed it via the Gamecube port and ran through the game 100% and unlocked everything. This remake will surely make the experience even greater considering the huge graphical improvement. I will be getting this for PS4 when it comes out, and I'm sure a Resident Evil 3 remake will come down the road as well. Time to listen to some of the awesome tracks from RE2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orHrAEU-W84 Not quite on topic, but I figured I'd ask anyways, any idea why these survival horror games have different names between the US and Japan? Ex: USA = Resident Evil, Japan = Biohazard USA = Haunting Ground, Japan = Demento USA = The Evil Within, Japan = Psycho Break I thought it just might be a Capcom thing, but apparently the latter of the three is only in relation to any of them for the fact that Shinji Mikami was director for the Evil Within. |

It's not just survival horror games they all get their names change there's never any concrete explanation as to why they do this. |

(sigh) Speaking of the original RE2 and games I STILL need to get around to playing...
From what I've heard concerning the Biohazard name change at least, there's a band in New York called Biohazard and Capcom USA didn't want to risk copyright infringement, so they decided on an original name for the American version. Same reason why Rockman became Mega Man because there's a brand of guitar amps called Rockman. |

DTJB has the right of it as far as Resident Evil. As for a lot of the others, those are Japanese games with English titles that have their names changed in localization for a simple reason; although the names are already in English, that doesn't mean that Western audiences will connect with them. This is because the Japanese people who named the games might have titled them in English, but since they don't frequently speak English or produce their products specifically for English-speaking audiences, the titles often don't have anything to do with the game or don't make sense in the first place. A Japanese person might look at a game that says "Psycho Break" in Katakana and think, "ah, it's got an English title. Whatever." They probably dont' speak English anyway, so they can either take it as novelty or go. Sometimes the titles are chosen with English words that the Japanese audience will be familiar with. Someone who speaks English, on the other hand, might go, "what's a psycho break? Like a psychotic break? What does that mean? What does that have to do with the game?" "The Evil Within", while a pretty generic title, is pretty clear in meaning. Someone can look at that title and go, "Ah, this is a horror game." It's all about clarity and marketing. If the Western publisher thinks a game will do better with a name that's either clearer or more relevant, then they change the title. |

Having played Evil Within, Pyscho Break is actually a pretty fair title given the content of the game, especially the main villain. |

Same reasons some Western movies get different names in Japan

This Resident really needs to stop being Evil.

if its anything like the remake for the game cube, then I expect great things..... but please try not to destroy the atmosphere of the game with too many weapons and bad pacing.

I dropped the series after how awful 4 was (as far as RE / survival horror goes), and I've been meaning to catch up lately but have had a severe lack of free time. (Certainly I'll admit it was a pretty good brainless action game.)
I know 5 and 6 weren't exactly well-received, even by those who loved 4, so I'll be curious to see what style of gameplay the remake is going to adhere to. RE2 was great at the time because it oozed atsmophere, capitalized on emptiness and isolation, and had a fairly ideal space to enemy ratio. RE4 (and presumably, everything afterward?) was a game that was practically on rails, as far as progression, with no backtracking and tons of areas built to function as combat arenas and gimmicky QTE-filled blockbuster sequences. RE2's existing locations aren't going to support that style of gameplay, so I hope it's closer to classic RE gameplay rather than a total reinterpretation. REmake was a great remake, even if it didn't entirely surpass the original game (not that anyone other than hardcore RE fans would make that claim), and if RE2's remake is anywhere near as great as that, then Capcom stands a chance at making another popular RE game. Hopefully they won't drop the ball. |

I've been wondering if this would happen eventually. If they are going to remake one of the earlier games, I'm pleased that it is RE2 since I've always been intrigued by the Leon/Ada dynamic.
