Lost story my ass Viz. This is the jump fiesta 2004 OVA, and it's pretty much filler.

"Exciting new episodes"?????? What are you talking about!?

I got tired of watching the endless dragout fights that were taking LONGER than DBZ power-up episodes... they're milking the franchise for all it's worth... I'll start watching it again when it stops using 7 episodes for every chapter...

But about the OVA, yeah, this is extremely old, back when the series animation looked like this... barely after the chuunin exam 3rd round prelims. So, it was a little extra... it was meant to be filler, and the anime was not in filler, so of course it's poor animation, because the good animators were working on the tv serial... and it's directed mainly at people who buy all the other Naruto stuff, so why anyone would expect it to be great, when it's not part of the main storyline, is beyond me. Oh well.

Really, this is the only time I ever remember Naruto stepping in dog crap.

I'm a huge Naruto fan, but I won't be buying this. I can't justify spending money on entertainment I can't enjoy.

I had to buy 5 copies of this.

I blame the Naruto vs Sasuke card.

But seriously, the movie, while Naruto, felt weaker than a DBZ movie. Nothing really solved, but still entertaining.

Now the question is what to do with all the extra DVDs -_-.

It's funny, because seeing what Naruto has turned into kind of makes me nostalgic for the days when it was just about a dopey ninja with a Bart Simpson complex who mostly used his powers to mess with people and occasionally hit on Sakura. It may not have been high art back then, but the current series has gone way too far in the other direction, and now it takes six months of formulaic battles for anything to happen.

Having said that, this special was pretty lame. It has no consequence to the larger plot and features some of the least impressive villains in shonen history. It kind of takes the worst elements from every incarnation of Naruto and smooshes them together.

Please don't take this out on the original series... Sad And by that, I mean the manga. I hope you'll know that the story is moving incredibly fast right now. I just wish the anime's director would quit basing all the OVA, movies, and other non-canon episodes off the "escort" theme. Not to mention, the "bad guys" weren't so menacing.

Ahahahaha... I'm kinda new? Well... all right, I guess I am new. I'm the newest reviewer anyway Smile

I didn't mean to make you think that I was taking the OVA out on the original series. I keep up with Naruto, believe me, I read the manga on a weekly bases and try to keep up with Naruto: Shippuden. I just meant that it was really hard to watch the OVA after watching, you know, everything else that is Naruto. I mean, if we compare this to the running manga in Japan there's this feeling of, "There's no way that this is the Naruto I watch/read."

Don't worry, I wasn't referring to your review. I know the OAV is bad, rated it that way myself. It was a general statement in hopes that no one compare this "movie" to the real series because it's not normally that bad...Ugh. Why did they make this? Laughing

LOL!

I guess, at the time it was made, it was at a point in the series where it would've been kinda funny? I think when I originally watched it a few years back me and my roommate just kinda laughed at it. But watching it now... my god. Yeah, definitely can't compare this to the series as a whole.

"The quality of this special is on the level of the beginning episodes and doesn't really do the series justice."

I hope you mean the episodes before the Zabuza arc starts, because the entire series has been going downhill fast before the final Chuunin exams began and the past 2,5 years in the series were unbearable to watch (and read). If you think the series is at the lowest point yet, Kishimoto's lack of writing skills start to show again and it gets even worse than before.

Um, in your opinion. If you're talking about the anime, then technically it really isn't his writing anymore. I personally think the story is always getting better, but that's coming from a fan of the series. Wink

Anime follows the manga storyline. I think the entire series won't become good anymore, and this is coming from a fan that watched it from the beginning.

*I could go on and on, but I don't want to derail this thread. Plus, I don't think you would listen to me. =|

You're probably talking about the filler episodes, which have a few 1 shot episodes (ep. 26, ep. 97, ep. 101), a filler arc (ep.102-106) and a never ending sequence of filler arcs (ep. 136-220), none of which have anything to do with Kishimoto's original storyline, before it goes back to the main storyline with a completely different series called Naruto: Sippuuden (except poor animation quality by the anime creators [not Kishimoto] and really bad means of dragging out the series sort of get in the way as opposed to the original manga work, which, well, doesn't, but I don't find myself bothered by it at all). Personally, I'm with AG on this one, I personally think the story gets better as the series goes along.

And this is coming from a fan who has seen every episode, including Shippuuden, and read every chapter of the manga all the way up to where it is in Japan. Wink (as has AG and brichibi I'm sure)

For the parts that do follow the manga, the writing is sometimes done well or sometimes overblown (like the "slowness" of the episodes). I like some of the changes*, but most of the other stupid alt. stories (like this OAV) are those disliked, overblown parts most people notice and bring up.

* Such as a filler character that was used again in the second series.

Finally someone calls me something other than my whole username (which I dislike). I don't mind "Ko-chan" as I'm called on pantsgoblin.com, either. Wink
