Heartbreaking.

Thank you for everything, Mr. Iwata. Your smile and fantastic sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Nintendo of America has said that they won't be posting to social media today in honor of his passing.

Both the official Playstation account, and the head of Xbox have tweeted their condolences.

Couple good tweets:
@RyougaSatome wrote:
A CEO of a huge corporation passes away and there's an outpouring of love, respect, and fun war stories. How often does THAT happen?

@Opn01 wrote:
@RyougaSatome It says a lot about someone's character when even their biggest rival posts something about they're passing

[edit]
Kotaku has images of Nintendo's Kyoto headquarters. There was a rainbow over it today. (I've also seen pictures showing that they're flying the company flag at half-staff)

The news hit me pretty hard. I didn't even know how much he meant to me as a Nintendo gamer. Thank you so much for everything you did, Iwata-san. May you rest in peace, and may your legacy live on.

The fact the only Nintendo Product I ever had is a Gameboy Color and the only game there was Pokemon Yellow. Childhood.

For some reason it didn't hit me hard as everyone is whipping. People Die eventually. Rest in Peace.

Let's just be proud that he's one of the person whom created classic games.

I mean thank FUSAJIRO YAMAUCHI, the original Founder of Nintendo!

Shigesato Itoi (lead designer for Earthbound) had a number of tweets to remember his friend (translated by Daniel Coniglo):
Quote:
No matter the farewell, I think the most appropriate thing to say is "we"ll meet again." We are friends so we"ll see each other again. There is nothing strange about saying it. Yeah. We'll meet again.

Even if you didn't have the chance to put into words how sudden it was going to be, how far you'd be traveling, or how you went much earlier than expected, I know you went wearing your best.

You always put yourself second to others no matter what, helping anyone who needed it whenever they needed it. You were that kind of friend. Although you may have been a little selfish for the first time ever by taking this journey.

The truth is though that I still don't believe any of it. I feel like I am going to receive a message from you inviting me out to eat at any moment. I wouldn't mind if you were to ask me like always if I had some free time. If you did, I'd ask you as well.

Still, "we'll meet again." It would be great to hear from you whenever and wherever; I'll being calling to you too. I'll call if I have something to discuss or I want to tell you a great new idea I've had.

We'll meet again.

Then again, you're here with me now.

Does this mean the company is going to get their act together and be more accepting towards gaming in general?

Are you saying its Iwata's fault that Nintendo wasn't accepting towards games?

If you're interested, here's a couple Pokémon-related Fun Facts of Mr. Iwata:

- Satoru Iwata helped Game Freak out of a jam with their development of Pokémon Stadium by using the original coding from Pokémon Red and Blue and tweaked it for the N64 title.

- To help Game Freak make the Kanto Region accessible in Gold, Silver, and later, Crystal, he created them a set of special tools that allowed them to compress the games' data.

He also cleaned up the code to add Mew into Pokémon Red and Blue if I recall correctly.
