Nintendo issued a statement on Monday to announce that company president Satoru Iwata passed away on Saturday, July 11. He was 55.
The cause of death was a bile duct growth. Iwata took a hiatus last year to undergo and recover from bile duct growth removal surgery.
Iwata was appointed director of the company in 2000, and took over as representative director and president in 2002. He was also the CEO of Nintendo of America, as of June 2013.
