I like chaika the coffin princess it a reminiscent of those old on the road Adventure series of the past u don't see much anymore and even more how it kept things interesting with the sense of mystery involving both chaika and the remains. it is a bit underrated but what u going to do at least the anime gave it more fame.

I loved the anime despite the rough landing at the end, disliked the manga. The manga was too juvenile with all its sexual moreaus(?) and it took forever to get to the first heist, 4 chapters! The anime got to the damn heist at the end of the first episode, and the sister had better character.

Disappointing to hear that Akari is more annoying in the manga version than the anime...was hoping that, bare minimum, it'd be the same.
While that's not enough for me to say that I wouldn't check out the manga, from what I can gather, the series doesn't make it towards the end of the story. At least, reading the discussion thread of chapter 27 (series is said to have 33 chapters, as it's 5 volumes long), there are only 6 chapters after, and that 27 has Tooru facing off against spoiler[Dominica]. Unless I'm able to find some more info on the series, doesn't sound like it comes close to the ending. I mean, the fight that is about to happen is something that spoiler[went down in the third or fourth] episode of the anime. |

So did I miss where they explained that spoiler[Tohru and Akari were actually blood-related siblings and not unrelated orphans raised to be soldiers?]

Yeah, I'd be interested in the manga, I really enjoyed the anime despite the weak ending, most of the stuff leading up to the last few eps was a great watch. |

I was a bit disappointed in the manga. The story is fine, just like in the anime, but i personally found the artwork to be pretty mediocre (to be expected in a manga adaptation of an anime adaptation of light novels ). I actually find Akari's running joke to be a little funny (in small doses) in the anime, but this first volume really does drive it into the ground.
Oh well, i'll probably keep picking the volumes up bc i want to see how the REAL story ends w/out getting the light novels (i tried that with Spice and Wolf and was sorely disappointed). |

as long as the manga goes beyond the anime which i assume was an anime only ending because of how horrible it was then ill keep on reading. as for torhu's 'sister' i always liked her borderline yandere and constant sexual harassment to torhu. I mean it was just plain funny, she aint ever gonna get into his pants but its entertaining(though a bit sad) watching her try. in the anime i believe she almost killed him on several occasions so i hope those scenes will play over well. spoiler[the red chaika arc is definitely gonna be more fanservicey and im not sure how im gonna react to that since i liked her the most out of the chaikas]

I'm fairly certain it was not an anime-original ending, but they did cram each novel into like 2 episodes, so a lot of content was inevitably left out. |

the excitement was high at the beginning of the series .. but not so much as i got further into the series.
based on a novel.. guess i can't continue on with the series ... since i felt like the ending was altered *didn't read the novel or the manga Last edited by AnimeAddict2014 on Thu Jul 09, 2015 6:24 am; edited 1 time in total |

Hasn't happened yet in the manga. Also, since that's a spoiler, you may want to tag it - not everyone will come into this thread having seen the anime. |

My mistake. I just hate indignant reviewers of Chaika going "poo poo incest" when not only is it a very common Asian-culture affectation to call people you know growing up "brother" or "sister," but also, in this case, unless I understood the backstory wrong, they're not even blood-related, so it's a false attribution anyway. |

^ No worries; I understand that as a peeve. I imagine it will come out in volume two, but rest assured, if it had been in here, I'd have mentioned it in some way.

I wonder if we'll get to see the ending in this manga adaption. While the total manga volumes is less than half the volume count of the novels, it could still reach the ending of the novels. Basing that off the Mayo Chiki manga adaption...I think it has the same ending as the novels. Back on topic, (according to MAL) this series is 5 volumes, consisting of 33 chapters. This discussion topic for chapter 27 seems to be referencing a fight that, I think, happens in episode 4 or 5 of the anime. It's why I don't think the manga adapts the whole story. And, while the manga is something I would love to read and own, the part of me that hates incomplete adaptions won't allow me to buy it. If it's basically just adapting up until what we saw happen in episode 4 or 5, part of me can not allow myself to buy 5 volumes of something that only covers one "arc" of the story... There's no way that the manga covers all the novels. They cover about the first 4 from what I understand. So those hoping to see the true ending will be disappointed. But it will still be an enjoyable journey.
I read the first two novels in English and they were fantastic. The anime had to cut some of the stuff from the first two novels like spoiler[Dominica's sister] that should be covered in the manga. The anime covers the first half or so of the novels pretty closely, and the ending hits a lot of the same notes, spoiler[Toru still makes the deal with Fredrika] also spoiler[they take Gaz out in the second to last novel but Toru and Chaika go missing. Which is supposedly resolved in the last book, but I haven't heard about what happens in it.] So the ending is kind of an original ending but it's one that closely resembles events in the novels until perhaps the last volume. (Considering it didn't come out until 3 months after the anime ended.) I haven't had a chance to buy the manga yet but considering my obsession with all things Chaika, it will undoubtedly happen very soon. |

Same here. I actually thought that 5 volume listing was a mistake at first but I guess it's actually going to be an incomplete adaptation. It's too bad, it would've been great if we got a full manga adaptation for all the LNs. Well, maybe I'll pick it up after some time. |
