Sounds peaceful, I want to go already. But hot darn, two years from now!

Moomin began in 1945 as a series of children's books written in Swedish by Finnish author Tove Jansson, ...

To expand on this, there's two official languages in Finland, Finnish and Swedish (Finland was once part of Sweden, two centuries ago).

It seems that it'll be a fun place to explore. The Moomin Zone must be full of fun but mysterious exhibitions of the Moomins' activities. Smile

How exciting! I hope to save up enough to make a family trip by the time the park is open. (And maybe wait until the next round of SeraMyu is happening, lol.)
I'll also make a point of visiting the Moomin cafe, lol.

I think it's wonderful it'll coexist with nature and emphasize that too.

Moomin is a fun comic, but at times it just seems so adult. More so than usual stuff for children that doesn't talk down to children (which is wonderful!). I think the comics are great from a fun and learning/value perspective though. ^u^

It's good to remember Tove Jansson was primarily a children's book author, and as she lived through the war years it had a noticeable influence on her works, especially later books after the war. But you're right, she was also an artist and drew comics based on her own books. She had a distinct style, and I don't think anyone has been able to replicate it authentically, except >... Fun fact is a lot of the scripts and actual drawings of the comics were drawn by her brother, Lars.
Tove Jansson's entire family was artistically inclined; mother was an illustrator, father was a sculptor, younger brother, Lars, was an artist and her older brother a photographer, all famous in their specific fields.

In light of recent events there is one more thing to take a special note of; Tove Jansson was a lesbian, and had at least two such serious relationships, one short and stormy, and a later one with a certain Tuulikki Pietilä, born in USA and one who became one of the most influential people on the Finnish graphical art scene, a relationship that came to last until the very end of Tove Jansson's life.

I wonder if Miyazaki was thinking of Moomin when he drew the "mouse" form of Boh in Spirited Away? I think they look identical, and I always thought it looked odd for a stylized mouse.
