Sailor Moon SuperS Complete Season. Ignore the hand on the right... my friend was having fun with the built in camera.

Is it worth returning if it is?

I can't read the bottom of the back, but I don't see a Pioneer/Geneon logo anywhere, so its probably a bootleg, unless its perhaps an Australian or UK release. Is it worth returning? Probably not. I'm not sure if the legit versions are even easy to find any more.

EDIT: No results from TRSI or DVD Pacific. You are probably better off just keeping it. Geneon doesn't have the license anymore and it looks like it will probably be a challenge to track down a legit copy.

EDIT 2: I thought that was supposed to be one of the movies, but its supposedly a complete collection and its definitely NOT the thinpack Geneon released.

If you search Amazon or eBay you can find copy's of the original Geneon release but the problem is that, since they are out of print, they are quickly inflating in price. I was able to buy this one for fifty, which is why I jumped on the oppurtunity.

In the packing, it has copyright information but it's by a company i've never seen. It certainly is not made by the same company which made my S Boxset, which is legit.

Regardless, you have a point.

Pioneer/Geneon is the only company that had the license to S and SuperS, so if its not them, its a bootleg (again, except maybe if there was a different distributor for Australia or the UK). What does it say for the region code and the subtitle options? And how many episodes are there per disc?

eBay is full of people selling bootlegs and trying to pass them off as the real thing and I don't think Amazon's market place is any better.

Amazon's market place, half.com, and ebay are all full of bootleggers. It helps to know how many disks are in the official U.S. set because most of these bootlegs sold will have a different amount of disks (usually less disks). If it doesn't say how many disk or what company produced it ask the seller, if they don't tell you don't buy it.

Actually, it looks exactly like a bootleg. (I would know. You can tell from the back.)

Yeah they look like bootlegs to me. I would return it after I watch it.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, the big clue for me is the fact that the words Sailor Moon ARE WRITTEN BACKWARDS Exclamation

So because of that little clue...yeah, it's a bootleg.

I'm surprised none of the rest of you noticed it... Razz

I believe the OP's pics show us the back/inside, in which the ink has leaked through from the front, which means it's as if it's being viewed from a mirror. Notice that in the second picture, the entire description is "backwards" along with the title.

C'mon...people aren't THAT stupid...

The "technical grid" is what gives it away for me...it's the same style and format that I've seen on numerous bootlegs.

Or it could have came from a parallel universe in which things are backwards as it seems in this universe. So technically speaking in that parallel universe bootlegs are legit and legits are bootlegs. Meaning that false is true and true is false but saying that false is true can also mean that true could be false then again saying that false is true could put the title of true being false.

Should you return it? Yes you can by going through a portal that leads to that parallel universe. How you say? Find a mirror and say the magic words "Ich will zur Welt von rückwärts gehen und kehre meine Raubkopie in den ich mein ganzes Geld hinter werde erhalten zurück, dass ich mit meinem Betrag der Zeit bei der Arbeit wo ich schwitze bezahlt hatte, und, meine Soldkontrolle die ich zu erhalten, werde auch für andere Notwendigkeiten bluten benutze wie zum Beispiel Speise und kleidend, dass ich ohne nicht überleben kann." Then you should be alright from there.

People are not that stupid, and it was pretty obvious. I'm surprise you thought it was backward, come on now.

It's not obvious in the pictures that we are looking at the inside of the case, so I think it's completely understandable to think that all the words were backwards. I would have thought the same thing if I hadn't read the explanation already.

Anyway, yeah, I'd say that is a bootleg, but since it's Sailor Moon I honestly wouldn't be too concerned, since who knows when anything official will be available again and is it technically unlicensed now.

I believe the official versions have the Pioneer logo and Special Uncut Version printed on the cover. It seems as though you can still find a few volumes on Ebay for $15-30 each, but it might be hard to get all of the volumes without a bit of patience or extra cash. I believe that all the official releases are also region 1, so avoid any Sailor Moon S releases that have region 0 listed. Finally, always check a seller's feedback when buying from eBay to see if anyone has complained that they ended up with a bootleg. I tend to buy plenty of models and figures as well as the stray OOP DVD from Ebay and have had very few problems thanks to careful shopping.
