So am I the only one who loved and loves the mess that is Haruhi-Chan's opening, "Ima made no arasuji"? Sure, I loved Super Driver ever since I first saw it but there's just something about the superdeformed opener that I find appealing.

K-On!? No doubt. Book of Bantarro? Prefer it to the show. Bakemonogatari? The snail one, I think, but the scissor one's good too.

However, I never liked the Spice and Wolf II opener. Are some of you sure you're not confusing it with the epic season one opener? Like the season itself, II is just there. And then it stops, just as it was getting somewhere. Not necessarily good, just somewhere other than where it started.

FMA B? Don't know and I even have the show on BD and I love it. There's so many episodes, it's just easier to skip them. Oh shounen, you are your own worst enemy...

This time, only four of my personal top 10 made the list, but I agree that 2009 just wasn't a particularly strong year for anime openings. Among the ones that didn't make it, my favorite by far is Kimi ni Todoke's self-titled OP, which is incredibly sweet and heart-meltingly romantic, just like the show itself.

If it helps, Hope... I pretty much never seen anything on the list. :p Heard of the songs, but never seen the shows. Spice and Wolf II is the only one I've seen, although I haven't finished it yet. I've seen part of the first season of Haruhi Suzumiya, but never finished it so I can't start on Season 2 yet. So I can relate to you!

Oh, I love it! I only really got into anime in 2010, so I wasn't aware that Haruhi-chan first came out in the same year as the second season. Even though I couldn't fully appreciate them the first time I heard the song, those lyrics are hilariously wacky. Aki Hata can go wild when given the right source material (as evidenced more recently by the ED from Sabagebu!).

I've knocked out around thirty shows from 2009 and...yeah, it wasn't a particularly strong year. The countdown definitely stated a strong case for the themes being underwhelming as well.

If I had to recommend anything from this year...Eden of the East, FMA Brotherhood, Bakemonogatari, and the sequels for Spice and Wolf and Natsume Yuujinchou (also, Kimi ni Todoke if that is your genre).

Hope PLEASE let me send you a copy of the VN for umineko, THE uminkeo anime is one of the worst anime adaptations I have ever seen.

Seriously under no circumstance should the umineko anime should never be seen before the manga adaptation or the visual novel. It is impossible to actually understand the anime very well because it not only cuts out a lot of the important info or condenses it to much, but it also outright misinterprets multiple scenes to further confuse what is already a very confusing series even when you get what the author intends you to get.

Hope, I'm curious, how did you decide to go with 2009 next rather then say, 2003 or 2005? Did you just pick a song you liked, which happened to be from 2009 and go from there? Or maybe throw a dart at a board with a bunch of years on them?

I voted for Nogizaka & Birdy, but looking at the list, there wasn't a lot I liked enough to add to my playlist from 2009 of what I did see & like Hope, I haven't seen much of her list.

Eh, it being considered gauche to like the K-On! opening "Cagayake Girls!" just makes me like that OP even more. Kind of like how compact discs are uncool these days, so they're pretty much all I listen to for music.

Besides K-On!, the other OPs from 2009 I like enough to own on CD are:
-"Keikenchi Sokojoujou" sung by Rina Satou, Marina Inoue, and Minori Chihara from Minami-ke Okaeri (on a Minami-ke song collection double disk set)
-"Super Driver" sung by Aya Hirano from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya season 2 (easy to get since it came with the Bandai Entertainment DVD release)
-"Ichigo Splash" sung by Hitomi Nabatame, Saeko Chiba, Fumiko Orikasa, Ayako Kawasumi, and Mamiko Noto, from Ichigo Mashimaro Encore (CD single)
-"Guilty Future" sung by Eri Kitamura from Kodomo no Jikan Nigakki (on a Kodomo no Jikan song collection)
-"Only My Railgun" sung by fripSide (Nao) from A Certain Scientific Railgun (on the fripSide album Infinite Synthesis).

Other 2009 OPs I like but don't own on CD (yet):

-"Romantic Strike" by Kanae Ito from Taisho Baseball Girls
-"Super Noisy Nova" by Sphere from Sora no Manimani

If you have any interest in watching Kemono no Sou-ja Erin, do not watch the first three minutes of this video as it contains a major spoiler. (No, Hope, it doesn't happen in the first episode, and
spoiler[it is one of the most heart-wrenching scenes I've watched in anime.])

I wondered that, too. The years right after the Recession were some of the weakest in recent memory and contrasted strongly with 2007 and 2006, two of the most diverse and, to my mind, best years ever.

Is it possible to have multiple write-ins in the vote?

So many of my favourites were missing.

Watch Beast Player Erin! The 50 episodes actually cover the entire arc of her growing up from a small child to a mature woman, and the first song's spoilers are for her entire childhood arc and losing of her innocence. Time is spent with her as a young innocent, as she learns terrible pain and tries to heal from it, as an adolescent, a teen, a young woman, and as a mature woman. You get to know her intimately because they spend time at each stage building her character. The artwork in this puts some people off, but I love it and the music, as well as the fact that not many anime are this dedicated in telling the story of one person growing up, let alone a woman.
