So... Is it ANN's wish that people argue about the morality of men only or female only concerts? I don't really see any news worthiness of this article other than to have people write arguments in the comments, which thankfully has yet to happen for this one.

Then why report on them????

Because it's something that merits discussion?
Because this is the internet and no precious ink was "wasted" on this article?
Because just because it's normal in Japan doesn't mean it's normal to the rest of the world?
[Edit]: removed uncalled for personal attack. Errinundra.

My main question is why this is even a thing? Limiting your audience by a specific gender seems financially stupid; that's practically half your ticket sales gone.
The swimsuit incident for GRANRODEO was sexist but what would any band benefit from a gender specific audience? Are the songs so masculine that people with uteri will automatically become pregnant? This seems to be something that random and very specific bands/musicians do for unspecified reasons.

Based on my con experiences, that was probably wise.
I wonder how (or if) TMR's segregated concerts differ (in terms of level-of-wildness, songs sung, bawdiness, etc?) Not out to condemn them or anything; just curious.

A rowdy, sweaty concert with an exclusively male audience. I'd go, but I don't think it's the kind of party it sounds like, sadly.

This concert is good for the men that want to experience unhindered spontaneity while contending with the rising summer temperatures. I don't think I would be personally suited for this sort of concert.

This isn't bad at all, and I don't know but I wouldn't mind a concert with no screaming fangirls. Now if we can have a men's only bara convention, that would be nice.

So...are speedos and swim trunks the only allowed attire for the VIP section at this concert?

Do you sincerely find this interesting? Did you want to attend the concert? Are you in any way affected by this restriction?
The comments are the same every single time something like this is posted. I'm all for civil discussion but there are rarely any new ideas. It seems to me like ANN is only posting this to get comments and stir up their readers. There will be people who don't mind and those who feel it is their duty to defend the "rights" of those who can't attend because of the restrictions in place (even when those who are restricted don't have any issues with said restrictions). Then people start insulting each other's intelligence. Rinse and repeat.
These discussions are about as interesting as the comments whenever Aniplex announces a new license.

This thing is normal in Japan and barely anyone here cares. If there were an uproar from the domestic fan base then I can understand, but unless that is happening then I don't think people should be forcing their Western ideals onto the fans and artists.

I don't really get why male fans requested he hold a concert that will be a sausage fest with no girls allowed, but you're acting like they are only willing to sell his album to men or something. You do realize the amount of people that can go to a concert is finite right? If a men only concert sells out, then it makes as much financial sense as it would to allow women in as well.

Thankfully, you were the first poster, and got here in time before anybody got overly sensitive and pissy.

This is much better written than the other one regarding Granrodeo and swimsuits (that was missing so much important info). Written clearly here, it's just an "extra" performance in addition to the normal schedule. And at a concert full of only men, they can crowd together and at the stage as they want with less discomfort since: "T.M. Revolution's concerts have a reputation for being energetic and rousing" (in Japan's summer, mind you) and that "He added the concert upon fan request."
Article writer also mentions that it isn't unusual for gender-segregated concerts/events to explain a little context to Western readers. It's nothing new, honestly. There's plenty of gender-specific things here too like some gyms, clubs (ladies/mens night), casino shows, etc. and it's so that people can feel comfortable and enjoy something without minding their behavior as much.
