Haha, I like this guy already. Sounds interesting enough to me, sure a couple of aspects sound redone so to speak but as I've yet to read the LNs/manga cannot judge. Plus I usually like alternate worlds. |

What I hear from LN readers is that this is a comedy on the style of Kore Wa Zombie Desu ka? (some even say it's even funnier) (So it's not surprising this shows share some staff members with Zombie)
I liked that one, so I'll have to check this out |

On the one hand, this entire MMO/virtual reality thing is relatively pretty recent, so it's still a fresh concept (sure, Sword Art Online helped boosting that premise).
On the other hand, enough with the high-schoolers!. Make him a 20-years-old who failed his university entrance exams or something. My patience (and taking the story seriously) is getting shorter and shorter with each "I'm your regular, average teenage who suddenly becomes the World's Most Awesome Person and I possess a morality compass straighter & stronger than Takamura Mamoru's punches". Having written that, though, should the cast from the drama CD reprise their roles in the anime adatptation (Ōsaka Ryōta, Fukuhara Kaori, Uchida Ma'aya, and Inoue Marina), it might be worth checking out. |

Wow and to think I just picked the LN up not even a week ago. So far I've found the first 2 volumes (all that's translated atm.) to be pretty funny.
You seem to be somewhat misunderstanding. This isn't really action like say SAO but a comedy. So no sudden "MC is super special and unique because X!" In fact he isn't even the only one to be sent over. |

If I had to go by that synopsis, I would think that there's some overlap with SAO. But again, my point wasn't about SAO, but that idea that "one day I'm normal, one sheeple from the pack, and the next day I'm gaining all the attention because the world needs a high-schooler savior". |

Love this. Gonna watch it. It's like Japan has a list of things I want animated, and just keeps selecting things from it. This is moe privilege.

True ill admit the synopsis doesn't give much hope. Tbh I was a bit meh on starting it too before I realized it was actually more or less pure comedy. Ill comment on those underlined points. 1st is normal for anyone who dies. (doesn't really seem like a spoiler but eh better safe than sorry.) 2nd spoiler[they have still yet to leave the starting town.] 3rd an outright lie unless it doesn't happen until some time past the 2nd volume. Considering I had similar thoughts at first its not like I don't understand what you mean but id really recommend at least trying this one before writing it off. It truly is a comedy more so than any other genre and its defied my expectations a number of times now. |

I don't get the hate towards high school protagonists. It's not like changing it from a high school student to a college student makes the character any better. It seems like a rather silly thing to get angry over, especially considering we probably won't even see him in school at all. |

It's the lack of deviation from the formula. It has become so persistent then when there's a series with a college student instead of a high-schooler, I'm thinking to myself "that's something I haven't seen in a while". It might be just me nitpicking, but seeing a large amount of the anime today centered around an adolescent character who can't even legally drink, drive, or vote, but somehow plays a pivotal role in saving [enter plot device here] can be used so far before I automatically roll my eyes and mutter "another one of those?". * Sidenote: Slice-of-Life shows (a la GJ-bu) and over-the-top shows (a la Kill la Kill) usually get a pass from me, do either to their settings & relative realism (the former), or ridiculousness (the latter). |

I think it depends on the type of shows you watch. Harems 99% of the time have high school protagonists because it's just easier to write a harem scenario there. Harems are mostly all terrible too, so changing the age of the protagonist wouldn't change a thing. Basically what I'm saying is, if a show is going to be bad, the age of the character isn't going to matter. It'll be a bad show regardless, and blaming it on the adolescent protagonist/high school setting is silly. |

Gundam, throughout most of its iterations, has had adolescent pilots as the MCs, and it isn't a harem franchise, to name one. Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika isn't one, either. The currently-airing Fate/stay night is another example (each route focuses on a single girl, not have multiple relationships at once, so it isn't a harem show). And I can go on.
You seem to misunderstand something - I didn't wrote about a show's quality being affected by whether or not the MC is a high-schooler or not, but I dislike that overuse of this premise. I'm enjoying reading Ao no Exorcist manga (and liked most of the anime adaptation, sans the last few episodes), I'm enjoying watching High School DxD, I liked Rozen Maiden's various anime adaptations. Having the MC as a high-schooler (or even middle-schooler) in a non-SoL or over-the-top show is a starting to be a hurdle for me to "get into" the show, but not enough for it to be a demerit (at least for now...). |

Damn, the one show I find where it sounds interesting and has a blue haired heroine it's another one of these LN adaptations.
What you are saying is only half agreeable. The problem is that in a lot of shows the high school setting does not fit at all and instead causes complications. Why would goddesses/demons/heroes choose an immature kid rather than a mature adult? You would think that choosing someone in the prime of their life who is both physically and mentally more adept than a minor is a good idea. Why is this kid so smart? What, was Einstein reborn? Also, the harem shows you are calling "bad" are only from your perspective. From the point of views of the other people, a protagonist can make or break a show, and age does factor in. This particular work leads to a lot of questions as well, such as, "Why was this particular boy chosen?" He definitely hasn't done anything to deserve a second life. "Why does the goddess look like a twelve year old?" "Why is she following the boy around because of a ridiculous request he made?" "Does she not have others she needs to guide to the otherworld?" It definitely wouldn't harm a studio to actually have a main character that is unique. I can't get why studios don't understand that being creative will probably get them more sales than these "rinse and repeats". |

It sounds like you're watching bad shows m8. If you knowingly watch a harem, yet still question silly things like that, you're not watching it right. Most harems are pretty stupid, and to expect logical things from a pandering show is also pretty stupid. |

Who are most of the target audience of LNs? High-schoolers. Is more easy to go for a light novel if the MC have the approximate same age of the people who will buy this books. Even if you talk about the otaku that love this books, them relate with the "average teenager" MC because most of them are average with the dreams of save the world, save the most beautiful girl in the school and have her fall in love with him. And if are more than one girl, the better for them. If you think of a older audience, i remember watch a program in NHK World about adults in Japan, where most of them remember the high-school years as the best years of their lives. So many adults loves when some TV shows are about live in high-school were them can remember those years. Then you can think that even adults like LN's with high-schoolers as MCs. |

I'm a high schooler and I have no intention to ever buy LN novels (at least the cliche ones).
I could be an anomaly but I have never liked a show because I wanted to see myself as the main character. To me, the protagonist is a person by himself, and I am not that person. Maybe when I started watching anime I had dreams like that, but reality crashed in the party really quickly. Seeing the protagonist get a harem of girls and become an op bullsht hacking god doesn't make me dream anymore, and it just makes me feel self-conscious, dejected, and jealous. Oh, what you have done to me, anime. |
